Did you know there's food insurance being advertised on Glenn Beck's radio program? Isn't that the bee's knees? Food insurance. In America.

Obviously no. But the article insinuated that you had plenty, and to spare. |

How much land are these things on? Cause that seems pretty cheap really.

That's insane. I would never expect some internet insurance company to be capable of paying out if the entire 'basic needs' supply chain started collapsing. If you're looking for 'great depression MKII' defences, it's got to be real stuff you can see and touch. Not balances on some internet 'myinvoice' page. Want food insurance? Start a vegetable patch and/or a chicken coop. Encourage your neighbours to do so. Make an effort to be sociable with them. That's my thinking.

Just buy your supply of food. Will only take up a little space in your garage and it is not too expensive. There are lots of sites like this. $4000 for a years supply of food for four people that will last 7-25 years in storage. Water is easy, buy yourself 6 of these, fill them and add a few drops of chlorine. Get yourself a good first aid kid, a pistol, shotgun, and hunting rifle and ammo and you are set.

Why would you want to only buy stored food if you have a patch you can get fresh food from ?
No doubt stored food would have an important role in an acute crisis, but in a prolonged one, freshness, flavour and vitamin content have to play a role, surely ?
