2 Reagans = a Benjamin?!?

Get on the bus, NoB! We're immortalizing the undead Pres. by putting his visage on the $50 bill!

Quote:
RALEIGH, N.C. — A U.S. congressman from North Carolina wants the $50 bill redrawn to feature the face of former President Ronald Reagan.
Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry wants Congress to tell the U.S Treasury to replace former President Ulysses S. Grant on the bill. McHenry announced his bill Tuesday. He has 13 Republican co-sponsors.
Grant was a Union general during the Civil War who led the North to victory and later became the nation's 18th president.
McHenry said Reagan transformed the nation's political and economic thinking and argued that "every generation needs its own heroes."
One of McHenry's Republican primary opponents, Scott Keadle, said he admires Reagan, too. But he accused McHenry of pandering to voters with the bill instead of focusing his work on the bad economy.

Grant is out - all the drunkard did was win a war and flounce around the White House, but Reagan...Reagan is an icon to half of our country. Reagan - the actor - is the epitome of anyone can be president.

Actually I might support this unless a good case is made for Grant. I mean, love him or hate him, Reagan did have a very effective presidency, while I hear almost nothing of what Grant did while president. I'll see how his wiki defense is.

I don't like Grant being on the fifty. I really don't like the idea of Reagan on the fifty.

So far I have Grant killed American citizens to win his war. Reagan did no such thing to win the Cold War.

Grant changed his birth name. What is he hiding??

Early military career had him spending way too much time with horses. Possible zoophile.

Quote:
"I was bitterly opposed to the measure, and to this day, regard the war, which resulted, as one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation."
He doesn't support our troops.
Quote:
The Jews, as a class, violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department, and also Department orders, are hereby expelled from the Department (comprising areas of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky).
Hates Jews.
Quote:
When urgent telegrams from state leaders begged for help to put down the waves of violence by paramilitary groups surrounding elections, Grant's Attorney General, Edwards Pierrepont, replied that "the whole public is tired of these annual autumnal outbreaks in the South," saying that state militias should handle the problems, not the Army.
Weak on terrorism.

He seems to have done quite a bit for civil rights, but everyone knows those didn't exist until the 60s with Martin Luther King Jr.

He also stopped an inflation bill, but Reagan is still the better known conservative.

Quote:
In addition to the $15,500,000 arbitration award, the [TReaty of Washington] settled the following desputes with the United Kingdom and Canada:
  • Ended immediate threat of war with the United Kingdom.
  • Settled border dispute between U.S. and Canada.
  • Settled disputes over fishing rights in the North Pacific.
The treaty triggered a movement for countries to seek alternatives to declaring war through arbitration and the codification of international law. These principles would be the motivating influences for further peace keeping institutions such as the Hague Conventions, the League of Nations, the World Court, and eventually the United Nations. The renowned scholar in international law, John Bassett Moorein, hailed the Treaty of Washington as "the greatest treaty of actual and immediate arbitration the world has ever seen."
Was one of the first and most well-known failures at international law.

Quote:
It was not until 1958 that Congress, believing it inappropriate that a former President or his wife might be poverty-stricken, passed a bill granting them a pension, still in effect today.
Didn't plan properly for retirement. Had the govt. bail him out.

Honestly the guy should be booted - these were the GOOD sections of his article!

According to Thoma Friedman, Reagan killed America.

Out here in Cali there are some folks that want to rename a local mountain "Mount Reagan".

It's current name is "Mount Diablo". Draw your own conclusions.

Nah! We need William H. Taft on the fifty. But they'll have to make the bill bigger.

It's a good thing I know you're not mentally retarded, Arjuna, otherwise I might have thought you were being serious about it being a good idea.

Give money to the people who already have money and magically the people who don't have money will get some too!

Yeah, brilliant. He should be put on the penny and then we should have the penny stop being produced all together. And then we should all take a dump on his grave and punch his wife.

I think we should split the difference and call it 'Mount Reagan Was the Devil'

Meh, I despise Ronnie, but Grant is on a fairly short list of presidents that were even shittier than he was. I think we should use this as a negotiating chip, 'You guys can have Reagan on the fifty if we get a public option.'
