With the recent election of Barack Obama and his appointment of Rahm Emanual, as chief of staff, could this be a possibility?

I'm not sure how to react to this quite yet. On one hand, this would be an intrusive government act that is not compatible with the principles of the United States government. But on the other hand, making a few pant sagging shit stains be responsible and do some brief service for the country might actually work to benefit our society.

I haven't seen this posted here yet, so I would like to hear some thoughts on this.

It seems unlikely because Obama already has a plan for community service for those in college, in exchange for paying part of their college tuition (4000$/year at least)

Most of those who have volunteered do not want draftees to either babysit or depend on. It'll never happen.

Get the fuck out of here, Fearless. Conscription is a boogeyman which the politicos pull out of their asses every few years in order to demonise their political opponents, in this case Obama. Unless China or somebody was to stage a major invasion of the US mainland, this wouldn't happen.

Which is good, because I grew up somewhere with mandatory military service. It SUCKS and doesn't give anybody an increased feeling of community or anything like that.

This is exactly what everybody I know in real life who has seen combat in military service has said to me on the subject.

There is nothing within selective service which is "not compatible with the principles of the United States government."

I don't know where the author gets his information from, but Obama wants to expand Voluntary service. Obama wants to expand the Peace Corps and offer incentives to students for serving. Not conscription for military service.

I think it would be kind of cool if there was a draft. It might create a generation of young people who care about shit other than their sidekicks and those stupid arab scarfs, who are willing to stand up to athority.


And thats exactly why it isn't gonna happen.
