People go through changes throughout their entire lives. Changing faiths, political ideals, friends, etc. Personally I think this is a good thing. A somewhat high profile author coming out against the bigotry of people who worship the same messiah she does. Could it be attention whoring ? possibly. But to me it reads more as someone trying to distance themselves from the bigotry that exists in their religion while at the same time reconciling their faith in their messiah.
