the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. 2 a particular system of faith and worship. 3 a pursuit or interest followed with devotion.

The closest you get is the final bit from Oxford, but I'm reasonably sure they were not inferring than religion (with gods) is a term equal in meaning and use to extreme dedication to non-supernatural things.

Fail.
