Yeah, I wouldn't. I will take lower pay and what I am doing now. I am topped out for an individual contributor at my company unless I become a principal.

I second this. I’ve simplified my finances and personal life, material possessions hold little value to me. I have next to no stress and shut down drama if anyone around me tries to start crap (what is it with adults who need drama??).

I don't know about that. Overall income taxes in Washington state are much, much lower than in the UK both in terms of headline rates and in the allowances you can claim.

I am paid on the London scale, but I live 80 miles outside London and spend 90 minutes traveling each way by fast train and walking across the city. I drive a decade-old Toyota which was 2nd hand when I bought it. We have 1 car between 2 adults. I own a single home (okay, larger by UK standards, but I don't have sprawling grounds and a private drive) in a decaying post-industrial town a long drive from any large city. There's very little about my lifestyle or possessions which is openly affluent. My daughter goes to private school. I went on holiday to Cannes last summer. I can afford a new laptop when I want one. I'll probably retire before 60. That's it.

Your house and land are way bigger than mine.

You’re still doing the long commute...that’s dedication. I really want to make the move to a more regional setting but my time with my child has become even more important to me now. So 16 minute commute one way it is for me right now.

I only sometimes envy how affordable US property is.

I have to walk 30 seconds from my house to my heated office above my barn / shed. Thirty seconds!

    It shows.

Joking! How many days a month do you work from home vs. from a work site?
