Just struck how similar it is to the US system though.

What's simillar to the US system? Americans get to vote directly on all their lawmakers from the President down. That's not the case with the EU at all. Imagine if Americans didn't get to vote on their president or senate, and the only way to remove them from office would be if congress passed a vote with a 66% majority to sweep them all away, and congress itself couldn't write or repeal laws ?

    That's the EU.

In that the cabinet members are selected by the President. One might even go as far to say they are appointed.

The cabinet is not a legislature. They serve at the pleasure of the president and they advise the president. You are a complete and total idiot.

Its not so much that 'Britain' did, its more part of the discussion over here & on the continent. The Populist Right have been touting Brexit as the start of the end & in particular that Le Pen's election would be the clincher.

I know there are differences & that EU commissioners have limited legislative. I dont actually disagree with Cullion's stance on this. I was drawing a comparison not stating an equivalence.

The cabinet members don't make law. You're confusing the executive and the legislature.

Imagine if even he was only empowered to choose one of them, and that one acting as the 'chief executive minister' then got to choose all the other ministers.

Now imagine that the only people in America empowered to propose new laws, or request the repeal of existing laws, were those appointees-of-appointees who never had to stand for election.

    That's the EU.
