The article overstates things a little. Most of the rifle wasn't printed, just a key part which AIUI is the hardest and/or impossible to legally purchase under the laws of many US states.
Metal is being printed now though, and there's work being done on plastic and ceramic barrels, so we might still see a working firearm printed in entirety this year. And if not this year, soon enough.

It will be another nail in the coffin of the concept of 'intellectual property'. Much of the infrastructure, and more importantly, forms of social organisation we built in the age of coal, steam and steel will become obsolete. People just won't need large organisations owning factories to produce things and drive them around the country any more. Not in the same way or to the same extent, anyway.
Raw materials, energy sources and land will all still be just as valuable as ever.
