Default MMA Finally Coming To Ontario !!

    Its about damn time!
Looks like the cash-strapped Ontario Gov't is looking for all kinds of new and inventive ways to drum up revenue (the Ontario Liberals recently made it clear that they plan to get into the online gambling biz) , so they are going to fast track the full legalization of MMA in Ontario.
UFC at the Skydome (well, Rogers Centre as its now called, but to me it will always be 'the Dome') - here it comes! I will be first in line to see that and I can guarantee it will sel out in a matter of hous just like the one in Montreal did.
    People LOVE MMA up here..

Ontario moves to allow mixed martial arts bouts

Ontario government has tapped out to the growing sports phenomenon of mixed martial arts, and will allow the cage-fighting events to be held in the province.

The provincial government announced Saturday it will adopt the same rules for the bouts that are being widely used across North America.

The first such event could then be held in the province next year, a news release from the province said.

Until now, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon and Nunavut have had province- and territory-wide bans on the contests, while New Brunswick has a ban on MMA fighting outside of the city of Moncton.

UFC, the top brand in mixed martial arts, has held events in Montreal and Vancouver.

In truth, Ontario’s decision may be less about tapping out, or giving in, to pressure to allow the fighting events, and more about cashing in.

The Ontario government is estimating that a major MMA event could attract as many as 30,000 fans and generate as much as $6 million in local economic activity.

UFC president Dana White was quick to express his excitement at Saturday’s news.

“Its done UFC is coming to ontario (sic)” said his Twitter account.

He thanked Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Sophia Aggelonitis, the province’s minister of consumer services, especially, saying: “U 2 made it happen.”

White has in the past called Canada the “Mecca” of mixed martial arts, a nod to the controversial sport’s growing popularity in this country.

In May, the company named former CFL commissioner Tom Wright as its new point man in Canada, and announced it would set up an office in Toronto.

The province stressed Saturday that its regulations will focus on the safety of the competitors.

The move will nonetheless likely have its detractors.

The decision comes as the British Columbia Medical Association is urging its counterparts across the country to push for a ban on mixed martial arts.

The body, which acts as the voice of doctors in British Columbia, is planning to bring that resolution to the Canadian Medical Association’s annual general meeting at Niagara Falls, Ont., from Aug. 23 to 25.

If the national group agrees to adopt the resolution, it is expected to lobby the federal government to work with the provinces to bring an end to MMA contests in the country.

    Fuck Bullshido.

This is great. W-1 can now actually fill its intended role as the #1 MMA org in Canada, instead of MFC (which is cool, but nothing based in Edmonton should be the #1 of anything, ever).

I hope some MMA d-bag gets in a fight outside the cage, and then the RCMP tranqualize and relocate him.

    You are an ass.
You are Ian's plaything, responding to his touch with shrieks of orgasmic delight. No woman in the history of the world is having better sex than sex you are having with Ian... in my head.
