    Default Thinking of a TV

Yeah yeah... totally not eq related, but I figured some people here have some disposable income and some good taste in electronics, so I'm curious about what the best deal I could get on a new TV would be. Currently, I have crap. 19 inch RCA... I'm thinking 27 inch flat screen. No, I can't quite afford the 15k 50' Pioneer plasma that I drool over daily... but I can swing 4-500 dollars.

    I did spot this:

With shipping, prolly be about 530 or so. Good deal or keep lookin? i like the many ports it has for dvd (s-video) and video game consoles, and the ease with which I can hook it into my stereo system. Anyway, I'm liking it, but want to get the opinion of peeps who know better that I before I click "send to me now plzthx".

I would get something with HDTV included. Even if you don't keep your TV around long enough til they kill current TV reception.

I believe all new TV's have S-Video capabilities, just make sure it does just in case. I personally have a 36" Sony with S-Video and on screen TV-Guide (not the one from the cable company, it's part of the internal TV Components) and all sorts of other bells and whistles.

Go big, there's nothing like playing Madden 2K3 on a big screen TV:)

Don't forget to buy the TV Guardian Foul Language Filter that they recommend.

People should be more bothered by crap like that.

Really not worth it. Only thing I would reccomend is a TV with component video jacks (step above S-Video). Especially if you have a progressive scan DVD player (which almost all of them aside from the $40 models are now).

Go to your local bestbuy and pick that up for about the same price as the one you are talking about. It has component and everything but HDTV, which, as merauk said isn't really worth it for the time being. This is the TV I own and it is -SWEET- for DVDs and games. Also the 24" model has the same features and is about $150 cheaper if you want to save some money.

As for the ports, get a switch...it's much easier to deal with if you find the right one. Finding a component switch will be expensive, around 200$ for a good one.

Some friendly advice is don't go shopping at walmart if you are looking for quality electronics. Yes they might have cheap prices but it doesn't mean it's good. Ultimate Electronics and Best Buy are both good places to shop.

There was a thing on Penny Arcade awhile back... Sears, or JC PEnney, or one of those places, will beat any competitor's price. So they went online, and surfed all over, and found the rock bottomest fucking price from the seediest looking website they could find, and printed it out. What they'll need is the name of the site, and a price quote that includes shipping. As for which major appliance dealer it was that honors this, I swear I don't remember. I think it was Sears. Anyhow, check around.
