So, this forum has seen ‘better’ days. We’ve had lower and lower participation rates, some of our best posters have pulled back to just occasionally commenting or snarkiness (I’m looking at YOU Cullion and CY). I’ve seen lots of references to our ‘glory days’ or talk of this place ‘dying off’, so it’s clear that many of you believe that this ship is sinking (or has already sunk?). If that is how you feel, then this post it to tell you why I believe you are wrong. I invite you to disagree if you choose.

This place is a venue where anything can be said, and usually is. Your thoughts can come straight out of your head and onto the screen – no editing necessary. Think about that for a minute. Can you do that at home? Work? In your gym, maybe? In my ‘real life’, I would not be having semi-intelligent discourse with a crackhead, a PhD., and a software engineer, all from different parts of the world. Straight on, no varnish. That may not seem like a big deal, but it’s huge.
These discussions with you folks help to shape my opinions on the world around me. It gives me perspective I would never otherwise have. How the hell would I know anything about the English view of world events without our UK contingent? Same for Lily and Yik in Aus. You guys DO see the world differently, provide better sources for your arguments than we see in the media over here (we are so NA centric it’s sickening, really). Creativo is our lone Italian poster, and had some great perspectives on what was happening in Italy when the financial crises hit his nation. He countered a LOT of what the media was saying here.

Our American posters have also given me more perspective behind the headlines, like what living with Obama is really like (our media love the fucking guy). They also tend to show me better movie trailers, and give me a head’s up on media stuff that isn’t really talked about here. This makes me a better informed, more rounded citizen of the world, I believe.

Occassionally, in PAC, we have people bring serious real life issues to the forum. Why, do you think? I believe it’s a ‘safe’ place to say what we are really feeling about an issue – even when it’s an unpopular stance. I’ve said things that I really didn’t want to discuss with the people closest to me, and generally, posting here has given me a chance to vent, and I’ve had a supportive shoulder when needed. And a backhand to the temple, also when needed.

Sometimes, we fight. Sometimes we really fight. I wanted to punch Cullion’s face in when we were discussing Gold, Currency, Investments, etc. Know what? Shortly after that series of discussions, I ran across clients who voiced similar arguments to his. I STILL do not agree with everything he said, but those discussions have led me to a much better grounding in those issues. If I never thanked you for that, Cullion, I should have. You are the best, biggest pain in the ass I know. As much as I HATED arguing with you, it forced me to do more homework, and in the end enabled me to give better advice to people.

That is the past. One I am quite happy to have been a part of. The present is one of smaller participation and less contribution by some of our posters (real life commitments DO take precedence you know). The forums are quieter, but still active enough that I have lots to see/comment on when I login. You don’t have to look long to find a good discussion, or something slapstick to make you giggle. Lately, Cake has been making me laugh out loud, something that is harder to do than it used to be.

So, what does the future hold? Something good, I hope. We have the foundation for it.

Let’s discuss our current Admin. Nob, of all people has taken over control of the forum, and btw, done a damn fine job. For that, he gets kudos. It’s been fun, he’s added lots of content and fostered discussions both inane and sometimes thought provoking. We are no longer beset by masses of spammers, and to say his hand at Modding is light is an understatement. We have a platform that no longer crashes every five minutes, and we don’t have to wade through pages of Russian wife ads, etc.

The way I see it, we have a forum that is stable and relatively spam free, where we can express whatever we want or need to. We have a group of committed posters from around the world, who in general get along, or agree not to – but still add to the various discussions. No one on here is a fucking moron (not even DA ;)). My hope is that we all continue to come to this place and use it as a virtual, relatively consequence free (current Gong Sau notwithstanding) place to air our views, talk about our concerns, discuss current issues, and poke fun at each other.

From my point of view (Vieux?) that makes it a pretty special place. Sure, there might be other places on the Net like it, but this one is ours. It is an open place, and if someone wants to take the time to join and contribute, it really won’t be long until they see us for the deranged lunatics – er, great people that we are, and hopefully add something to the mix. RJ did it, so did resolve. For several years now, this forum has been here, and so have we all. I will continue to be here until the lights go out.

I hope to see you all here in the future as well.
/fin.

I was so happy for a moment, then I got an internal server error.

Anyways, this place rocks. I miss some people who don't post any more, but those who are left are keeping things interesting.

Was that whinging wall o' text faggotry a Gong Sau?
Sounded more like his loveletter to you and NoB the DickTuck Twins.
Maybe you will get lucky and he'll whisper the lyrics to Goodbye Horses in your ear to take the sting out.

Whilst this site really is great, it has caused some strife with Woman of Doom.

My browser history is full of searches for arse pics, random B-movie actresses with their tits out, cosplay and Asian dating sites.

I wouldn't have it anyother way.

On a serious note: this forum is probably more important to the regulars than we realize.
I don't post as much as some of you guys, but I do read a lot of the threads and consider this place to be a little therapeutic. Once you get past the silliness and trolling ( and by god, there is an abundance of silliness and trolling) sociocide is a pretty unique and colorful place.
While it is true that the number of active members is kind of low, what we lack in numbers we make up for in quality. There is not a fool among us and that makes for good exchanges and info sharing.
Lebell makes the place more interesting when he drops by, to be certain.
Judging by the numbers, it also seems that our forum has an inordinate number of lurkers. Have you guys looked at how many people are on this forum at any given time, or how many views some of these threads get ? Yet it is the same people posting most of the time, and we rarely have new people join and begin posting.
Is it just spillover from Bullshido ?
Why do so many people peruse, but choose not to post here ?
Anyways, I'm glad this place is here. And while I do yak on a few other forums a bit, this is usually my first stop after I've checked email, my sports pages and the international news.
Hell, I even come here before looking at porn.

I don't post here much for a few reasons. My job is demanding; it's not mainly a question of time, but rather of spare concentration. I'm also conscious of some disgust over NoB's assiduous proctosculation of Lily. The forum in general seems fairly bland to me in recent months.

I just can't think of many reasons to be active here.

I think it takes 99 votes though.

How not to lose good posters:

Be interesting. Be active, and invest a little time, instead of just taking pot shots at each other (no one should stop that, however, it makes for some funny reading).

I'm as guilty of this as anyone. As I said, Real Life takes priority, and sometimes it's damn demanding. But that doesn't mean this place is unworthy of some effort.

And Snake, I didn't mention you in the opening article - along with many others by name, but I did lump you in with the 'American Contingent'. I do find your pieces about pantshitter, Comicon, etc. intersting and entertaining. You are less hardcore Republican than NoB, but have no love for Obama, and you seem to be pretty damn well informed. Your insights into Obamacare, gun control, etc. have been valueable, IMO.

And yes, it was newbish. Fuck you all.;)

I would say Snake is less corporate / capitalist than I.

I am the perfect centrist. Fiscal conservative, social liberal. If more people thought like me it wouldn't be such a fight to get economies going in the right direction.

And... Darwinism would have more reign to help improve the average member of society.

Feryk

Fiscal conservative, social liberal <> centrist.

You are a barbell, if anything.

And it still makes you Republican, just not Tea Party.
