Do you have one? Was it pre-purchased or did you put it together and what's in it? Are there items unique to your vehicle use and driving conditions in your first aid kit?

I've has my new car for nearly a year and just never got around to putting a kit in it so that's this weekend's project.

I was prompted to kick myself into gear after watching a Bear Grylls series where he shows people how to survive urban catastrophes/accidents.

Essentials (?):
Bandages (adhesive and cloth plus tape)
Alcohol wipes
Painkillers
Torchlight + batteries
Fire blanket
Glow sticks

Also, what about first aid for your car? NoB's recent experience of running out of petrol comes to mind...

^Real good start there. Add:

bungee cords (various lengths)
rope strong enough to tow vehicle
hose clamps
WD40 or similar, the yang to duct tape's yin
monkey wrench

EDIT: fire extinguisher

Snake and Billy - good lists though it sounds like you guys have your boot full. The fire extinguisher is a great idea though I'm not sure
how stable it is in a vehicle? Knife, check. Rope, good idea.

On a side note, it sounds like Snake has the raep kit and NoB the raep survivor's kit.

Just get a soft satchel or soft toolkit bag and all is fine.
As for the fire extinguishers, they have small consumer models that are similar to "canned air" size.

A German Shepherd is *NEVER* part of a raep kit

You only need a kit like that if your jits sucks.

AAAAAA

If you carry a knife in your car trunk here you can be charged for having a "deadly weapon".
Happened to a guy I know, he's still spending money on lawyers and he'll probably not keep a clean record anyways.

I'd keep a retractable blade in the first aid kit and a pair of sharp scissors.

^Transparent attempt to get Resolve to sig you is transparent.

Truthfully, I carry a lot less stuff since I stopped buying used American cars. Which also coincides with my carrying a cell phone, and having a wife. And yes Reese, some roadside-assistance insurance.

But water, jumper cables, flares, sharp/multitool and flashlights still go in all cars. Along with the fire extinguishers which, to answer your question, are not particularly volitile. I'm not talking little plastic Kiddee ones either; these are shaw-nuff metal ABC ones* bought from (and periodically maintained by) a fire supply shop. Yeah, one in the kitchen too.

I've had mixed success with Fix-A-Flat (http://www.fixaflat.com/products/aerosol/): kind of depends on what sort of puncture you've sustained. But it's cheap/light/small enough to carry for those occasions when it might get you to the next stop, especially if you're someplace it's dangerous or difficult to jack up the car.
