View Full Version : How does your government manage mineral wealth, particularly oil and gas?

in Canada all mineral rights are either crown or free hold

free hold rights come from a right of way issued to the Candaian Pacific Railway, The Hudsons bay Company, or inherited from land homesteaded before 1910 (I think, I don't feel like looking up the year). freehold rights cannot be sold only inherited.

all other minerals rights are held by the state.

Mineral rights are leased in a secret bid auction with only the winning bid made public.

the crown then charges an overriding royalty on all production.

well spacing is mandated by the government to ensure maximum production over time.

There is a collective of fat, mustacioed women, known as the RJs, whom meet mothly at an undisclosed CiCi's Pizza Buffet, to discuss how the spoils of war are to be divided.

surely there is some manner of "BUFFET" (in fact from the sounds/looks of some of you Canucklestanians, I think you have nothing but buffets) in that vast wasteland beyond the Northern Wall.

I think NoB should be renamed "JOHN SNOW" as he is close enough to be part of the watch.

And Winter is coming, Snake. Don't forget it.

As for Buffet, yes, but no huge national chain. The worst around here is probably Buffet Royale, which is pretty shitty at everything.

then those hairly lipped hogs will be meeting at the Grand Buffet Palace Royale while RJ spanx it in hideyhole

to my knowledge they generally don't have mineral rights, but I have heard they can be real bastards about the surface lease.

They usually try to get as much money as possible, then turn around and demand you hire native labour...which doesn't usually show up, or if they do, they get tossed off the site - but you still have to pay them.

everyone tries to get as much as they can, just farmer Joe doesn't have the legal budget of a whole band to get it.

I've heard about native "workers" being paid to drink in the back of a pick up truck so drilling can commence.

Strictly speaking, they don't. But that doesn't mean they don't get a truckload of cash from the resources dug up on their lands.
And in some areas of the country, its a LOOOOT of money.

Burlington Northern-Santa Fe owns all the mineral rights under my house.

If there is ever a boom in the prices of shitty sand and clay, I'm sure you'll hear from them.

So, you have a mine in your basement then?

Silver is a byproduct of nickel mining for the most part, btw.

It's really just refuse.

Ozz, please don't take that piece of propaganda and call it 'info'.

It's utter bullshit.

I will be happy to refute it, if you are genuinely interested in what I am going to put out there, but I have no interest in engaging in this debate if your mind is made up.

HINT: The only people who call it the 'Tar Sands' are the environmental greenies.

No..not at all man. I just put the link up to generate discussion, I think its rather goofy too.
I take everything with a grain of salt.
Don't assume just because I put up a link that I'm espousing the ideas contained within it.
