Boston Bruins netminder Tim Thomas has created quite a bit of controversy for his refusal to attend the ceremonial ' meet the Prez ' celebration.
Its not so much his no-show that is creating a stir, but his comments about the government that has Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs and others among the NHL brass, seeing red.
Thomas apparently stated " I believe the federal government has grown out of control, threatening the rights, liberties and property of the people."
He was benched the next game :

Bruins management insist they have no intention of trading Thomas, but this is causing quite a stir in the press, especially in Boston, and with the trade deadline looming and a bona fide #1 backup (Tukka Rask :http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/) ready to step in..you never know.
I find the whole thing amusing, its not often that an NHL player causes a national stir with his comments.
I don't expect that he will be traded, as he is among the top 3 goalies playing in the NHL right now and is just one year removed from a spectacular playoff performance culminating in a Stanley Cup victory.
The Boston Bruins won their first cup since 1972 last season.

The correct thing for the Boston tea partier to to would have been to meet with the CIC and tell that to his face.

It was a douche-bag thing to do by a douche-bag goalie on a douche-bag team.

Douche.

Hockey matters, Snake.
Its your opinion that doesn't.

He would have punished Barry in his crease.

The Super Bowl MVP Quarterback holding the same opinion and performing the same action would have been of greater import.

Obama invited the '85 Chicago Bear team to the White House and one of those old coffin-dodgers declined because of similar reasons and it got greater coverage in the States.

Seriously they are a goon squad. They cheap shot everyone.

It was a selfish thing for Thomas to do because it massively distracted what was supposed to be recognition for their achievement winning the Stanley cup. Now all his teammates aren't going to be remembered as being congratulated by The President for winning, they are going to be remembered for Thomas being a dick and stealing the thunder of the team.

They sure as hell aren't going to trade him though.

Seriously they are a goon squad.

Yeah, they seem to get away with murder sometimes.
But teams have to stand up to them. Lucic is a fucking monster and he will continue to throw his weight around as long as he can get away with it.
Its not just him though, that weasel Marchand is a cheap shot guy and Chara is a dick too.

Usually, no..but because he cleverly upstaged the team's visit with his words, its all getting more attention than it normally would.
The league is embarassed..and the Bruins owner is pissed off because it reflects poorly on his organization.

No one gives a shit if Thomas is a republican idiot.

They care that he derailed their congratulations by the President by making a cheap political statement.

I just heard from Politico that Obama is too nice and needs to take the gloves off, so clearly hockey has a place in politics.
