This was the first chance I got to watch a full game! From my horribly inexperienced eye, Germany wasn't taking shots. They would try to set up and would get overtaken before the first pass.

The Dutch would of done better if instead of kicking the Spanish players, they tried to kick the ball.

It was about time for the little silk-footed Spaniards to win a damn World Cup. Hats off to neolatin supremacy.

Also, LOL Holland, third final and no cigar. I placed a bet on Holland winning the WC a month ago, so I share their disappointment. Well, almost.

My ears are ringing from the celebrating... What a long ride those past 30 days.

Nuff to say teh missus is very happy - so I iz happy 2.

Viva Espania!!!!

I finally like futbol.

Niets doet mij meer erbarmen
in mijne wederspoed
dan dat men ziet verarmen
des Konings landen goed.
Dat u de Spanjaards krenken,
o edel Neerland zoet,
als ik daaraan gedenke,
mijn edel hart dat bloedt.

Nothing so moves my pity
As seeing through these lands,
Field, village, town and city
Pillaged by roving hands.
O that the Spaniards rape thee,
My Netherlands so sweet,
The thought of that does grip me
Causing my heart to bleed.

FIFA president is apparently upset at the chippy play in the final game (14 yellow cards!).:spanky:
Until they get instant replay for disputed goals and start cracking down on all the shit with players shoving one another in front of the net during crucial moments in the game, soccer is going to be lacking ..
Nothing compares to the GOOD OL' HOCKEY GAME !!

Each football game is a tale about two teams and a referee. Add instant replay, and it becomes like any other sports, just about the teams. Without the DRAMA it wouldn't be the same!

So it's a soap opera for supposedly grown men?

I thought it was a bunch of juiced up jerks kicking a ball around and playing smear the queer.

You got it twisted with Aussie rules football Reese. These little faggots run around until somebody whips them in the shoulder with their pony tail so they can fake the flop better then Vladi Divac on his best day. Many of them also seem to spend a large portion of their salary on tanning salons and hair product.

There would still be plenty of room for drama..all sports have that.
FIFA simply HAS to institute instant replay on goal disputes...I don't think they should for infractions like tripping and all that crap. Soccer players are better at diving than any other athletes on the planet are, god forbid we take that away from them.
But that call in the England vs. Germany game was just brutal..no professional sport should have that type of shit going on. Everyone except one bonehead knew that goal was in and that the ball had crossed the line..it was a pivotal play at a pivotal time. Although Germany dominated the second half and likely would have won the game anyways, the dynamics of the game change if you go into the half with the score tied 2-2.
But we all know this already...Fifa needs to do something about it and I think that by the next World Cup we will be seeing instant replay on disputed goals.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Cup and really liked seeing Japan play.
We need some J-League ball on Dish Network!

I don't see a big difference between not recognizing a valid score and, say, the ref not seeing a penalty, misjudging any foul play, and all the other many things that can happen on the field.

It's part of the culture of the game: unfair, unpredictable, closer to real life than a chess match. All and every team in the world has been on both sides of that kind of injustice at some point.

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, and granted, the technical means weren't there until recently. But I think it's a slippery slope. You start with goalpost sensors, and end up putting GPS on each player's limbs, and having lip reading experts telling the ref if somebody really said "motherfucker" or was it "shufflebucket"? and so on and so on...

I love watching Japan too, mostly because they represent well their football-themed manga, just without superpowers

A 27-year-old Texas man named Hector Castro has been accused of beating his two-year-old stepdaughter to death because she wouldn’t stop crying while he was trying to watch the World Cup. It gets worse. He allegedly tried to shove a bolt down her throat to make it look like she had choked to death.

Grown men kicking a ball around is srs bidniss, apparently.
