The lesbo couple and some disabled students were sent to a fake prom while all the normal students partied at a parent-organized event elsewhere.

McMillen: I Was Sent to Fake Prom

By Neal Broverman

To prevent Constance McMillen from bringing a female date to her prom, the teen was sent to a "fake prom" while the rest of her class partied at a secret location at an event organized by parents.

McMillen tells The Advocate that a parent-organized prom happened behind her back — she and her date were sent to a Friday night event at a country club in Fulton, Miss., that attracted only five other students. Her school principal and teachers served as chaperones, but clearly there wasn't much to keep an eye on.

"They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them," McMillen says. "The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to."
Last week McMillen asked one of the students organizing the prom for details about the event, and was directed to the country club. "It hurts my feelings," McMillen says.

Two students with learning difficulties were among the seven people at the country club event, McMillen recalls. "They had the time of their lives," McMillen says. "That's the one good thing that come out of this, [these kids] didn't have to worry about people making fun of them [at their prom]."
In March, after the Itawamba County School District refused to allow McMillen to bring a female date to the prom, the district canceled the event altogether. McMillen and her lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union challenged that decision in court, and a judge ruled the district could not bar McMillen and her date.

The judge declined to force the school district to hold the prom because a parent-sponsored, private prom was being organized — and the understanding was that McMillen and her date were invited to that event. But Hampton says McMillen was never invited and organizers made it very difficult for her to find information on the time and location. That prom was later mysteriously canceled, with the Friday night event at the country club officially replacing it.

The lesbian teenager who won a court victory against her Mississippi school for its prom policy says she was sent to a "fake" event so other students would not have to see her with her girlfriend.

Constance McMillen told the Advocate that she was invited to what was supposed to be an "inclusive" prom for Itawamba Agricultural High School but when she arrived, she and her girlfriend found only five other students there.

Instead, she said, her classmates were celebrating at a secret party organised by parents which she was not invited to.

Ms McMillen sued her school last month after it cancelled the prom rather than let her attend the event with her girlfriend.

The judge ruled the school had violated her right to freedom of expression but did not force it to reinstate the cancelled prom, saying he was satisfied with the private one which was to be open to all.

But Ms McMillen said: "They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them. The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to."

She said she had asked one of the students organising the event where it was being held, and was told to go to a country club in Fulton.

But the student added that two of the seven at the "inclusive" prom were disabled students.

Ms McMillen said: "They had the time of their lives. That's the one good thing that come out of this, [these kids] didn't have to worry about people making fun of them [at their prom]."

JACKSON, Miss. (CBS) Apparently humiliating Constance McMillen, the lesbian teen who wanted to take her girlfriend to the prom, by sending her to a decoy prom while her classmates partied elsewhere, wasn't enough for some of her fellow students. Irate over having their original prom canceled - and blaming Constance - they started a facebook page called "Constance quit yer cryin."

While many of the early posts have been pulled by their authors, a few websites seem to have been able to grab them before they disappeared. The first post reportedly read "Seriously, you've pretty much eff'd up your fellow classmate's best memory of High School."

Another post defends the phony prom, saying the students were exercising their free expression rights and wanted a "drama-free" prom "without the main cause" of said drama. The poster also wrote that the majority of the student body felt McMillan had "thrown the school board under the bus."

The page has since been taken over by Constance's supporters, who have flooded the wall with supportive posts chastising the page's creators, and some of the early commenters.

But hate is hate, and some of Constance's "supporters" seem to be perpetrating the kind of hateful speech and sentiments they showed up to condemn. One message reads, "The fact that this group exists is the reason I support abortion." Other messages apparently included death threats.

Ah, the Internet, bringing out the best in everyone!

But one of Constance's cooler-headed supporters posted a message Constance reportedly posted on her personal page in response to the backlash against her classmates: "I just want the negativity to stop because I try to be respectful and positive...please tell all you friends to get the word out."

McMillen seems to understand that this kind of backlash against the backlash against the backlash is a self-defeating enterprise.

There's nothing stopping people having a private party and not inviting someone. The school's collusion is the only question.

Also, retard=lesbian...? lol.

Pretty sad state of affairs. Though her and the others who turned up at the fake prom need to think why they would want to socialise with people who have no respect for them.

I think I spent about 5 minutes at my prom: Just to get my picture taken with my date so we could tell our parents we went.

Its despicable, but its Mississipi, so they'll probably get promoted.

Too bad for her that she didn't try to bring her cousin as her promdate, 'cuz I'm sure that would have been fine.

because they were raised on shitty teen movies were every injustice faced in high school is resolved via a dramatic prom-night confrontation.

Of course, I had a shitty high school experience too, just like everybody alse in the entire universe. I skipped prom to go see Boris the Sprinkler.

Imagine 20 years from now how cool it'll be for those kids that went to the "secret" prom: "Well, Tommy, when I had my senior prom we had a really awesome time discriminating against this one lesbian chick..."

My high school experience was pretty different than most folks. I went to the "Alternative" high school. It was actually pretty cool. You got to eat and drink in class. They didn't give you homework and the teachers weren't complete assholes. But the shitty thing is our "normal" high school sent you there if you were handicapped or pregnant. At the time it was the Richest school district in the state with the top football team as well. I guess they didn't want to ruin that image by having tards and underage mothers there.

In retrospect I'm glad I went to that "other" school. It was what I needed. Not to mention the Normal high school was ridiculously overcrowded

My senior dance probably the equivalent of a prom, I was drinking in the same pub as the teachers before the dance, overdid it on weed and booze and took a whitey, then tried to sneak my GF into my mum nad dad house. but I was 16 and it was the 70s.

High school sucked, but I actually had fun at my prom. I had invited the girl I went with while I was temporarily broken up with my GF, so we were just going as friends, and we just went kinda casual and campy. My sister dressed up as a chauffeur and drove as around in my uncles caddy, and we hit rocky horror after the dance and got rice in our rented formals.

I broke up with my g/f at prom. I prefer high school plays. There's a lot more sex and drugs, and it isn't all compacted into one night.

What's wrong with how she looks? A bit hefty for me, but definitely in beer range. I bet Cullion's got his pants off already.

The way I heard it, it was the school who didn't want them in the prom, not the students. I'm sure she had some friends that weren't in her fake prom.

I skipped my prom. I basically didn't like the other kids enough to want to go to a dance with them.

I think it's awesome someone tried to set up a MySpace page hating on the lesbian but then got pwnt by the rest of the internet who swamped the page calling the haters out on their shit. Boring high school kids who go to a secret prom don't have as much abstract merit as a vindictive lesbian.

The lesbian couple should get over it. That's life, you can't force people to like you and invite you to private parties. Get some new friends already. If you're old enough to decide your sexual orientation, you're old enough to know all this.

Prom or 'the formal' as they call it here is the gayest thing ever. Plus add to that the gayness of the pre-drunk requirement and secret after-parties, it was a nightmare for the girls I knew.

I never went (I went the year before to another senior guy's prom). Instead, my parents sent me on a 6 week tour of England and France. My dad (unlike Liam Neeson), actually flew in with me and made sure everything was 'okay' before leaving me with the tour group.

This was not a purely private party. It was organized by school officials on taxpayer funded time.

This couple has learned an important lesson.

How to fight.

I know it's a cliche, but the girls have to choose their battles wisely.

The initial complaint and the judge's ruling was a good way to make a point.

Forcing yourself on people who don't want you around, doesn't sound like a good idea to me (eg. me on Sociocide).

lolol!

this reminds me of my old hometown.
aaaah the memories.

we had two proms too:the real one, and the special one.
the special one was organised for all the gays, gypsy's jews and blacks.
we'd be like: 'go in here please,*snickers* you need to be desinfected first..*snickers*'

then we'd open up the vaults on them.
when the sleeping gas wore off they'd find themselves in a container on a boat to Liberia.

lolol.
it cost a lotta money but it was awesome.
