I just got back from the renaissance faire this weekend, and though it is not yet completed, I have a few photos of the prototype of the scale mail skirt I mentioned I've been working on.
Though I originally intended it to be a miniskirt, it ended up being pretty close to knee length.

As you can see, one of the scales came undone during the course of our adventures at the renaissance faire. The skirt ended up being a bit on the tight side, which was forcing links apart and causing such problems. I'm going to take it apart and expand it by a few scales in order to correct this. I also plan on extending the brass section along the bottom to make it more pronounced, just once I acquire some more brass scales.
The belt was originally intended to hold the skirt, but I found that a drawstring actually accomplished this much more effectively, and now the belt plays a principally decorative role.
Here's a shot from the back:

Altogether, there are about 1400 scales and 3400 rings in the skirt. The belt is an additionally 770 rings of jeweler's brass. The buckle came from Amazon. The total weight of the skirt is 11.4 pounds. What you see above took about 2-3 months to make, and cost $118 for materials. I made the skirt largely as a gift, with my lady putting up the cost of the materials and me doing the work merely out of the goodness of my heart and my desire for beautiful people to be adorned beautifully.

The skirt made quite a stir at the faire; my companion was dragged off at one point to have her picture taken by an official photographer, and I got a couple people who were interested in potentially commissioning one of their own from me.

Who'd have guessed metal could so wonderfully accentuate a posterior?

Dang, no wonder the skirt had "tightness" problems.

You have excellent taste in women's backsides good sir. I salute you!

Also, now that you have the scale mail skirt down, you need to finish the rest of the outfit!

I just watched Conan yesterday at my friend's 9/11 party. This scale mail could have totally been in that movie (and would have done a better job than most of the actors).

You have no idea how right you are. I actually am making her a number of pieces to compliment the skirt, which at the moment consist of a choker, bracers, and boot covers, all in the same brass-and-steel color design.

Steve was just being facetious as well as deliberately misunderstanding the tone of your post TLH. Don't mind him.

Are you worried that Sieg would tear you to insy pieces in front of your date before decapatating her and tearing her mammaries out like edamame being removed from the husk?

Sounds like a TRIPLE date is in order.
It should be noted that the lovely lass above is not my partner, though she is equally gorgeous.

I just got a commission for a second skirt; I'm still retooling the first one, but once I'm done with that, I'll be moving on to the new one.
Don't worry; I'll have pics of that, too.

I just received photos of my lady wearing her skirt after the modifications I put in, and would like to share them with you all. I expanded the skirt's width, added a seventh petal, extended the brass trim to make it more defined, and polished it to a glimmering shine. I'm quite pleased with how much nicer it looks now.

I also ordered the materials for the second skirt today, and will commence on that project shortwith.

We're gonna need a rear-view, bending over for a good review...

The brass line does help quite a bit.
