So I bought these monochromatic red sneakers.

Only to find out that solid red is actually kind of hard to work with. Any top with a bright color feels oh so totally 80s and of course any more red pieces are out of the question.

Bad impulse buy.

Can you exchange them?

Brown pants? Not sure beyond that.

Chainmail playsuit (inspired by McClaw) + red heels (MJS channels Dorothy) = fail

Your suggestions all suck, except for Japuma who actually tried. I'm going to play with the lace colors and pair them with muted tops.

Changing the laces made an unbelievable difference, suddenly these are just as easy to dress with as a pair of red Chucks. I never realized how important a little bit of color contrast is in a sneaker but seeing how much changed from that little detail gives me a new respect for the people whose job it is to decide these little bullshit details.

MJS... you know how I know you're gay?

but to keep on the forum topic, I suggest this:

Even on the internet I can't keep a straight face typing something this stupid.

Daredevil cosplay. You know you want to - go get a red leather jumpsuit.

Japuma has teh correct.

In addition, mess with some boot black ink on the soles if you're feeling gutsy and steady-handed. You can purchase it cheap at a military supply store. In the military, I used it after turning the rubber of my boots a dingy brown/gray from long-term field exercises.

Unfortunately, it typically dries with an obnoxious glossy finish...so be careful.

The red sole is okay, it was the red laces making them monochromatic that made them feel like slippers or clown shoes.
right now i trade between white and black laces but i think i'm going to settle on like a slate gray.
