View Full Version : Monthly Themes?

Harpy

Hi Steve,

Can we have monthly themes like Bullshido does?

I vote that July be 'Austen' month.

xox,
Lily

Steve

I don't see why not.

Harpy
10th June 09, 08:21 PM
Yay!!!!!!!

I think it would be a good way to focus the board and each 'theme' would probably encompass things like society, religion, politics, cuisine, culture (yes, this includes Star Trek) + comedy so it would provide a lot of food for conversation and debate.

Steve
10th June 09, 08:29 PM
We could sticky something in CTC for it, I don't know how we could decide on each month's theme though. Phrost?

Harpy
10th June 09, 08:31 PM
a) To the death

b) We could be civilised and do it via PM's to you/Phrost whereby the admins decide the monthly theme from submissions. This should mean that we get a nice rotation of subjects month on month.

Phrost

I pull the Bullshido one out of my ass on the morning of the first, usually.

Harpy

*my eyes are bleeding!*

Phrost, is it okay if July 09 is 'Austen' month?

Steve
10th June 09, 08:43 PM
Jane Austen is a bit limiting for convo over an entire month, Lily. But as the one with the idea, I vote OKAY.

In the future it should be concepts/ideas or currently actually living people of importance that should be in the forefront for the monthly theme, IMO.

OMG I LOVE YOU STEVE!!!!!!

We can discuss concepts of manliness from Austen's time and ours, fashion, how to write love letters like Mr. Darcy (moosey could learn a lot). We can discuss foods that one can prepare for afternoon tea after a game of croquet.

Music, architecture and literature of that period, as well as nuns and second sons and their prospects in life (i.e. clergy or army). All still topical today.

Best of all we can mock each other just as Austen would have liked it. Maybe we'll make it an 'Austen and No Profanity' month?

Plus we can have a 'ManCry' thread where we discuss golddiggers that you boys have met in your lives (there are a lot of them in Austen) novels.

That's just off the cuff.

Steve
10th June 09, 08:57 PM
Whatever.

Harpy
10th June 09, 09:06 PM
You just made me crack up...LOL.

Okay, fine...we won't girl up the forums (unless you can show a little more enthusiasm and support for me, I mean the forum).

Could we also talk about how all Jane Austen books are the same? And how they all suck?

If there's one thing I hate more than rich English people it's books written by girls. But I'll try to keep an open mind here and not drown in my own barf.

Harpy
10th June 09, 11:07 PM
Thus begins the metamorphosis of Frank, done even with a dash of gallantry.

Frank - Jane Austen was not 'rich'. She was the seventh of eight children of a Reverend. She actually had quite a good time applying that biting wit of hers to the wealthy (based on their snobbery rather than their financial status). You'd like her.

Dunno about that, Twytch. I caught an old episode of the Twilight Zone he was in and he was pretty good. Mighta been some other sci fi thing.. titled 'Shatterday' where he accidentally dialed his own phone number from a bar and well.. he answered.

Cullion
12th June 09, 05:58 PM
Hey I know. Can I be a mod for a month?

Steve
12th June 09, 06:02 PM
Why? There really isn't that much to do around here in that dept. (as I've said on more than one occasion).

Unless you were planning on making more work for the rest of the mods...?

Kiko
12th June 09, 06:04 PM
Mostly we just sit around drinking cold coffee and playing with paper clips, right?

Steve
12th June 09, 06:05 PM
That is until I get home, then it's a cold alcoholic beverage. But essentially, you hit it on the nose.

Kiko
12th June 09, 08:10 PM
Oh, right.. we also hit one another on the nose!

Ajamil
13th June 09, 02:25 PM
Wouldn't it be more outside the norm if the "that time of the month" thread didn't have us being all bitchy and picking on each other?

Bro, July 27th. Just for one day. I just.. I just want to feel the power. Just for one day. I won't even be online most of the day.

Please, just once, let my dream happen.

Even if it never happens again, at least I'll be able to die knowing, you know?

Really... you're what?

Cullion

And what do the present mods get for THEIR natal anniversaries then?

Cullion
13th June 09, 08:06 PM
You don't have to let everybody else have one for several reasons:-

i) Not everybody else wants to.

ii) I'm a supporting member.

iii) I'd be a really awesome mod. Just for a day.

We need a 'Prove You Can Be a Mod' thread. Maybe with a poll to decide the winner.

If everyone but me enters, I'll be the judge.

(As I'm not interested in being a Mod.)

Are you saying you want the 27th, just to spite me? or do you just want your own day of modhood? because I'm fine with the latter.

The latter will do,
