LONG...long article, courts essentially say woman is too stupid to properly care for her premature and infirmed child, with this 24-yr. old essentially stating she is no more stupid then other mothers and the Social Workers are the idiots and bimbos.

I'm either fast on the Google news today or everyone else has more of a life than me.

(Aww c'mon, let me think I'm fast.)

It doesn't, but to take the child away immediately after it's discharged from hospital, you gotta be REALLY fucking stupid.

Like, "boil the kettle to make a bath for the baby" or "let it play with razors" or "babies need food?" dumb.

sounds like an English Carrie Buck. Except I gather from the first half that she's not receiving compulsory sterilization.

edit:

'My daughter belongs with me. Even the social workers accept that we have a bond. It would break my heart to lose her,' she says. 'Sometimes I feel like snatching her up in my arms and taking her home with me, but that would just make the situation even worse.

'When I see her every month, I don't want to leave her and it's getting harder for her, too, because she's beginning to ask questions about why she can't live with me.'

This does not sound like someone too dumb. she understands the consequences of her actions, at least to the point of acting impulsively. They better have some superb evidence against her to make this case. Or perhaps this is another case of 'testing the legality of'

my point; the article implies she is not that stupid, but gives no information other than she had some tests done that were contrary.

Except that being too stupid to look after a child means you could very realistically harm the child, which you seem to be missing dude. They don't take the kid for shits and giggles, they take the kid if you're deemed UNFIT.

Um, did you actually read the article. First of all, she doesn't present as stupid as all and she has at least one professional opinion to back her up (a psychiatrist vs a psychologist on the other side). Secondly the council have admitted they removed the child illegally. Thirdly, you don't actually have to be that smart to look after a child. Certainly not passing IQ tests smart. Empathy, intuition and above all willingness to sacrifice are far more important.

I have to say now that I've given it some more thought that it stinks. Its just too close to home with the american eugenics movement, sterilizing people...

If you have the time, you should read this article (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1134/is_6_111/ai_87854861/). It fits the matter quite well. The skinny: Carrie Buck, her mother and 6 month old daughter were deemed to be imbeciles. Since "three generations of imbeciles is enough", the state of virginia took it upon themselves to sterilize her. The twist was that she wasn't imbecilic and it was part of an agenda the eugenics record office had working to more widely employ their politics and theory.
