View Full Version : Does the current design make people think this is a Nazi site?

Phrost
31st October 08, 08:08 AM
This occurred to me shortly after I made the video of the Obama protesters vs. the McCain rally goers. I'd sent the link out to the local Democratic Party rep to which I'd spoken, who'd expressed interest in what I was doing at the time.

And I heard nothing back, not even a polite "thanks".

So it made me wonder: is this site, because of it's "theme", which is based on this video and artwork by Todd McFarlane:

9KW8DRSvEoQ

I felt it was perfectly appropriate, but without this as context people might simply see a "hate site", which is far from the case (except for the fact that we all generally hate each other a bit on one level or another).

Thoughts?

Well, the color scheme matches nazi symbols. The S might make folks think of the SS... like this does:

WE know we're just sarcastic and skeptical, but a newcomer might get the wrong impression. Perhaps you need a marketing consultant?

I'm married to one. You need to take absolutely NOTHING for granted and remember that most people aren't as brilliant as Sociocide folks until after they've been with us a while, right?

Nowcha mention it, the cross-hairs are suggestive of the "celtic cross" (http://www.hampshireflag.co.uk/world-flags/allflags/naz_symb.html)

That's what you based it on???????

I wouldn't have guessed in a million years.

Without the context, I didn't think "nazi" from the site design. I associated it with someone who was trying just a little too hard to make it "cool".

You chose the color scheme of the oppressors, not the people rising up.

Oh man, did you miss the mark.

I voted 'Yes'.

I also thought that it was intentionally Nazi-ish in an ironic way.

Like the Black Belt Club on Bullshido, the antithesis of something or ... what?

black background is nice, white writing easier to read. maybe change red to pink, then they'll think we're gay

Kiko

Maybe try gold instead of red. Then we're um.. classy?

I think we'll revert to a combination of this and the original CTC "shit brown" after the election.

Kiko

NOOOO! Not potty colors!! Hell, make it pea-soup green if you have to be gross..

Actually dark screen is best.

Ooooh.. What if you put it to a vote so we can have some of that democracy you guys are always screaming about?

Still trying too hard to make it "cool" I see.

One of my favorite arguments with one of my business partners was him insisting that the color scheme was entirely wrong and making me change it completely. The result looked terrible. Afterward, when even he thought it looked far worse, he confided he was colorblind.

20 years and counting we never let him live it down.

I don't intend on letting you live down your bad font size choice you had to fix when you finally bought a new monitor, either.

A brown background creates terrible contrast on many monitors.

"hate site", which is far from the case

The amount of threads about people bitching and being angry about something far outweigh the number of threads about people being happy about something.

And generally speaking, the happy threads tend to be threads about food.

Maybe if the logo wasn't a brain in crosshairs but a brain with a stick of dynamite sticking out of it in a comical fashion, it wouldn't look so fascist. Or something.

I think the deal is that this site has the same atmosphere as Bullshido: very relentless and cruel to those who are full of shit. Society doesn't like that because most people tend to be full of shit and even we are to an extent. It's very hard to be honest to yourself and even harder to be honest about yourself to others.

So when people see someone with a no-bullshit attitude, they know to get rid of the fucker before s/he takes their j0rb for simply being more competent.

No, you have to kiss your boss's ass instead of telling him his plan is total shit. You have to cut your hair and wear a fucking suit like millions of other assholes because it what, "looks professional"?

http://images.inmagine.com/img/denkouimages/dkis002/dki009013.jpg

The tie gives me magical powers! I no longer suck ass when I wear one!!!

And then maybe after working for 30 or 40 years, slowly climbing that corporate ladder, you'll get rewarded with a meager retirement plan and forgotten, because no matter how smart and ambitious you were, you bent over and took it up the ass all that time since there were very few other options.

And people like it that way. It means they can substitute flash for substance and get hired because of the shoes they wear. And, it also means they know what the future brings. People would rather know that a penis is approaching their anus and the size of said penis than to stick their ass out and not know what will happen.

So anyway, the guy took a look at your site, and didn't like it because we don't play nice with incompetent fools.

I never knew these were Nazi colors, by the way. Most Nazi stuff like old documentaries that I've seen were in black and white. Maybe you should change it to black and blue or something?

Zendetta
31st October 08, 11:17 AM
OF COURSE it looks Nazi-ish. THat's what's so cool about it. Replacing the swastika with the dollar sign is a pitch-perfect commentary on today's society, which gladly trades consumerism for liberty.

Or a hysterical freudian slip, considering Fearless Leader's political leanings!

Either way: keep it.

Phrost-o.

Check the WOT (Web of Trust) rating for this site. It's a firefox add-on that uses some social muckamajig to determine the safeocity of a given website. This site has been rated as "dangerous." So much so, in fact, that WOT tell me "Hey, fuck off! Do you really want to log in to this site you idiot?!" every time I log in.

http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/sociocide.com

The only one who left a comment about their rating was this idiot asshole, so there's no real reason for the rating. A change in the graphics and colours might dissuade people from assuming we're a bunch of Nazi sympathizers.

Having never seen that vid before I must say it is PURE AWESOME. From the artwork to the updated Genesis tune. Though, a bit derivative of Hokutonoken in it's style, IMO.

Anyway, I voted no, because I never once even thought "nazi" when looking at this site. However, after considering it, I guess I can see how someone who is a reactionary liberal might make the assumption based on the look/style alone.

I'm betting a lot of this comes from people who were run off from Bullshido.

But seriously guys, come on, this is exactly why Phrost made a separate site, so that all the filth and insanity (that means you, CTCers) can just stay put instead of tarnish his r34l site.

Or something. There's only like 5 of us here while Bullshido is overrun by idiots daily.

So Phrost, does that guy think you're a Nazi now? It's funny that he'd think you're a socialist.

WarPhalange

I'm betting this had more to do with people (like that guy Phrost befriended) reading some of the threads on here and deciding that we are the ones that the Nazis should have targeted instead of Jews and the disabled.

it does look nazi-ish.

speaking of fascist nonsense, the australian government is about to bring in a 'great firewall' similiar to china.

So if the australians suddenly dissappear from the boards, you'll know what that is (the government having blacklisted the site as illegal/bad).

change the red to blue, no one will notice.

I think that it is a pretty big jump from the local democratic party rep didn't call me back so I wonder if the site looks too Nazi-ish. This could possibly be why he didn't call back.

I would suggest 3 reasons more likely he didn't call back.

1. He is flat out trying to get Obama elected
2. Being the local party rep he is (pick one) lazy, stupid, impolite, disorganised, lost your number, a volunteer and doesn't care
3. He was jsut being polite when he expressed interest hoping this alone would tip your vote to Obama.

I recommend wait until a week or two after the election, then give the guy a call, and say congrats, commiserations as applicable, hey what did you think of the site? Then get some feedback.

Or if you are serious about it, conduct 15 independent focus sessions to receive feedback about the site, does it make us look lilke Nazi, can be one of the questions right at the end, so that it doesn' colour peoples opinions too early.

After that, the site is called Sociocide and is pretty ironic, looking at the many of the threads that get posted, being thought of as Nazi's is probably a small mercy.
