View Full Version : Review: Mega Man 9!

Prepare to die.....a lot.

I grew up playing classic 8-bit NES games like Castelvania, Metroid, Super Mario Bros, and of course the Mega Man series, so I was stoked when I heard about Mega Man 9. For those of you who don't know, Mega Man 9 is Capcom's newest edition to the series and it pays homage to it's predictors by looking, sounding, and feeling just like a classic 8-bit game.

Retro gamers rejoice, this is what it's all about: run, jump, shoot, and die.

Dear God will you die.

This game is freaking hard! Not only do you have to deal with the challenges of each stage, you have to figure out which order to go in (tip: start with Galaxy Man or Splash Woman). Each level is wonderfully designed with tightly timed jumps, difficult enemies (that respawn if you move off screen), and requires multiple tries before you figure out the pattern. The only way to beat the level is to let it beat you up till you figure out the patterns and spawning points.

There is also a save feature and an item shop, which will certainly help keep you from launching your controller at the TV. Plus there is challenges, times attacks, and additional content you can download, such as playing as Proto man, to keep you occupied.

If your a fan of Mega Man 1-3 then I HIGHLY recommend this game for you. If you've never played Mega Man on the NES I suggest you try an Mega Man 2 first.

I love how they made the cover look like Mega Man 1 & 2, which doesn't even come close to resembling the main character.

At least they got the color right on the second game, although the gun confuses me. Also, is it me or does it look like Dr. Light in the background ordering Drill Man to attack Mega Man? WTF?

I think your Drill Man is supposed to be Crash Man. However, it does look like Dr. Light is ordering him to attack Megaman.

I don't know which I find more amusing on the MM9 cover. The fact that Megaman has a pistol as well as an arm cannon or that Dr. Wily looks like a Borg version Heihachi Mishima.

enemies respawned in other mega man games too. i used to take advantage of it to get power-ups and sometimes 1-ups. mega man 2 had a few levels like that.

i think this is available to download for 360 october 1st.

i don't have a 360. i'll just play 1 and 2 on an emulator methinks.

this game combined with the 360's terrible D-pad is going to end in tears.

360, PS 3, and Wii. It's a down loadable game, costs $10. On the Wii it works great with the classic controller

If there has to be a song with Dr. Wily's Castle, it should be sung by a chick who can carry a tune and in a language that nobody can understand.

Or at least by some dude shouting:

Well, Megaman is a robot, so he must have BALLS OF STEEEEEEL!
