I had a rub like this, couldn't figure out how it was made, other than salt, pepper and coffee. Does anyone know any recipies?

What...are you poor?

That's disgusting.

Go have a soy sauce sandwich, and stop turning everyone's stomach.

I'm guessing you don't know dick about food?

Sounds like you'd need something to sweeten it. I sometimes do pork loin coated with pasilla chiles and brown sugar, so maybe something like brown sugar would help this one out. Also might consider adding chocolate. Wouldn't use too much coffee though- it's ilkely to be bitter.

Only that you consider dick to BE food.

See what I mean? Even the gentle response treats you like you're about to run with scissors.

I'm gonna make it, so I'll wait on the results to decide who's the idiot, I suppose.

Hey Domite- try this. It's a Bobby Flay so it'll probably turn out better than my guessing:

Coffee Rub:
1/4 cup ancho chili powder
1/4 cup finely ground espresso
2 tablespoons Spanish paprika
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons chili de arbol powder

One caveat- if you don't already have most or all of those ingredients, you're likely to spend more on buying them than you would the steak to put them on. However, you can probably cut it down to the ancho, coffee, brown sugar, s&p and get something that tastes decent.

I always use coffee in my swedish meatball gravy. Coffee would make a nice rub ingredient... let us know how it works!

I've tried this and haven't been very excited about the results, but it might fit your palate better:
