How many times has Jet Li released his "final film ever"? I could have sworn I heard about him doing it at least twice.

i saw a bus ad yesterday, and then the trailer on TV. I can't believe they are still milking this franchise.

Yeah, Fearless was meant to be his last wuxia film. But i see him continueing that to. I really just think he made a passing comment about wanting to move on and they milked it for all it was worth.

Oh, and this will be terrible.

Different director than the first 2, and no Rachel Weisz. no Rachel Weisz = EPIC FAIL

I personally like the Mummy series. It's kind of my guilty pleasure. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't ever pay to see this, but I'll watch it when it gets put on TV in a couple of years.

bad credit

It has Yetis in it, so I'm in. It's good to see my cousins get work.

Damn, a movie with Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh and i'm sure it will be terrible. I wonder how many chinese they've pissed off crapping all over their legends and history. and like i said before, no Rachel Weisz = fail

They are actually called abominable snowmen, not yetis (different, IIRC). I do know some info since I have bigfoot around here.

I just got back from sasquatch provincial park last night.

the difference between a sasquatch and a bigfoot is sasquatch wears a toque. yetis are probably similar.

Father and son awake another mummy, where the son doesn't really like his father? My guess is the mummy wins a quick battle and then the son never really likes his dad at the end and doesn't start looking up to him.

I really hated the 2nd one. They shat all over any sort of religion, myth, and legend they could find in order to make a crappy movie. If you have the power to mix and match, you'd have to be fucking stupid to screw up that badly.

Yeah, those whacky Tibetans.

Shoulda made it about the Incan (or was it Mayan? Or Aztec? I can never tell.) mummies instead, but that woulda been a bit too much like Indiana Jones 4.

As for the "yeti" thing, a Khampa warrior/translator I met INSISTS they are the Missing Link.

His advice was to run DOWNHILL as their hair falls in their eyes and to not entertain any thoughts of fighting them in melee combat.

They also apparently carry off human women to ravish

*waits for syberia to catch flight to Tibet*

We have the Yowie... after the name was misappropriated I hope the "real" Yowie finds the people who dreamt that one up and tears their extremities off.

Because I've actually been close to death and escaped?

Here, post a full length suicide video on youtube and I'll know how it's done.

Shawarma is a pretentious name too. I think we should all call you Shawn.

Yesterday I saw The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I felt that it really needed more gun porn. Certain aspects of the film were lovingly and well developed, whereas other aspects seemed to be seriously underdeveloped.

Basically, there was a lot of historical research and references that went into the film, such as historical references to shih huangti, to part of an edifice looking like the peaches of immortality from Journey to the West, to costumes, references to Chinese warlordism prior to the establishment of the PRC, references to the warring states period, and so forth. I felt the historical research was very loving.

But the characters weren't well done. Basically, instead of being historical characters from the 40s everyone had modern attitudes and acted like people from the US circa 2008. So that seemed really unbalanced with the historical research they put forth.

Finally, there wasn't enough gun porn. World War II guns are all about massive firepower, heavy rifles, wooden housing, and accuracy at over 300 meters. But that really didn't get played up in the film. The characters were mostly running around with pistols and submachineguns which don't really have the operatic hardassery of WWII era .30 cal machine guns or ginormous bolt action rifles. It seems to me that when you're talking about battling the undead you need that mangling excessive firepower to be able to rip the undead hordes to shreds. A 1911 or a Browning or a Walther P38 just isn't going to cut it, IMO. I wanted to see slow motion .30 cal casing ejects with the brass spinning through the air with smoke coming out of them and landing in the snow and melting the snow around them. I wanted to see tracers and big divots flying out of stone. I wanted to see chunks of undead flesh and bone getting blown the hell off. But instead we got submachineguns and pistols. Sigh.

this shitty movie does not deserve three threads.

mods merge plz kthx

did they at least have tommy guns? that would be a pretty formidable weapon for that time period. and .45 ought to be good enough for the undead imo, especially at that rate of fire.

Well, they were fighting what was obviously supposed to be Shih Huangti's terra cotta warriors. So I figure if they're like earth golems or what have you it's better to have a .30 cal rifle catridge to try and shatter that than a pistol cartridge.

just awful. why can't chinese actors get in to western films that are actually decent?

I've given up on Brendon Frazier, but Jet Li is wasting what is left of his youth. He can't keep doing this stuff forever.

did they take a big steamy poop on chinese history too? i imagine they did.
