Red Bull to run 'fan car' at Silverstone.

With the Formula One world just about coming to terms with Honda's 'World Car', Red Bull Racing has revealed that it is to experiment with an alternative livery, albeit in aid of charity, later this season.

The drinks brand has confirmed that it is to run a 'fan car' with a difference, as people rather than major institutions make up the graphics scheme. The livery will air at the British Grand Prix in July, as Red Bull gives fans the chance to appear on the cars driven by David Coulthard and Mark Webber, helping to raise 1m for spinal cord charity Wings for Life in the process.

Wings For Life is the brainchild of former Austrian motocross rider Heinz Kinigadner, whose 23-year old son Hannes was crippled in a motocross accident in 2003. He started the foundation with the help of Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz and today it is one of the leading organisations supporting research into curing debilitating back injuries.

"Only 16 years ago, a broken back was thought to be incurable but now we know that is not the case," said Dr Jan Schwab. "The question is not if we can find effective treatments and cures, the question is when."

The unique concept will see more than 50,000 race fans literally appear on the bodywork of the two RB3s at Silverstone. Costing 10 apiece, interested participants will be able to upload a portrait of themselves, friends and/or family to the database at www.redbullf1.com (http://www.redbullf1.com), choosing whether they appear on Coulthard or Webber's car as well as where their picture goes. All money raised will be donated to Wings For Life.

"Winning the British Grand Prix is something I'll never forget, so I always look forward to going back to Silverstone," Coulthard commented, "Of course, it's where I get the most support from my fans so this year, so having them literally on the car with me is a nice way for me to pay them back for their support over the years.

The ever-competitive Webber managed to add a little extra spice to the initiative. "They say your biggest rival is your team-mate, so now David and I have got an extra battle between us to see who can get the most faces on our cars," the Aussie joked, "I promise that whoever signs up will guarantee their photo a very exciting ride round Silverstone!"

Yeah, that's pretty dope.

Also, they're bringing their soapbox derby (http://www.redbullsoapboxusa.com/) to my house this year (dope as well).
