Apparently this is just one of several billboards that were pulled because people complained they were too graphic.

Controversial Captivity Posters Pulled
by Josh Grossberg

How do you advertise a horror movie? Apparently, without the horror.

Controversial posters promoting the upcoming Lionsgate release Captivity were being quickly removed from billboards across Los Angeles and New York after a public uproar over the sadistic nature of the ads, which depicted star Elisha Cuthbert's character being abducted, tortured and killed.

The distributor and its producing partner, After Dark Films, made the decision to take down more than 30 billboards in and around L.A. and remove approximately 1,400 Big Apple taxicab tops after receiving a slew of complaints from callers, particularly women and upset parents, objecting to what they considered to be four ghastly and gratuitous images hyping the R-rated Roland Joffe-directed film, which unspools May 18.

Tried to find some of the other ads, but no dice. I may be desensitized, but really. Is this too graphic of an advertisement for a horror movie?

2007 will mark the year of Man's downfall with a movie that depicts kidnap, torture, and killing.

I probably should have mentioned in the OP that i'm never going to see this movie. Not even Elisha Cuthberts hotness can save it. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about PC lame-o's who don't like scary things.

Horror movies stopped being scary in 1991, when I turned 5 and realized it's all just a bunch of blood and gore. Woop de doo.

I like japanese action movies. they are often over-the-top with blood and gore, and often don't make a whole lot of sense. Movies like that are awesome.

That film ruled. So over-the-top, it was hard not to see it as pure camp.

Good horror isn't on the screen, it's in your head.

You may be correct, but you forgot to provide video evidence.

Kidnapping, torture, rape, and killing? Wasn't that the plot of like every movie from the 70's. Tarantino and Rodriguez are setting back the paradigm shift.

Was I the only person not impressed with Ichi? Miike definitely made better movies than that.

Damn, I was thinking Ichi when I started reading this thread and you guys all beat me to it. It was pretty narly. But what about "The Story of Ricky"? Didn't that start all of that shit? It was a bit ahead of it's time, tho.

How is the manga?

One word: Urotsukidoji. That took the cake back in the day. Penis-tipped tentacles? Nuclear-power semen? That Shit was like Godzilla Porn...http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/Urot1.jpg

Ichi had cheap computer fx, whereas Ricky had regular ol' cheap fx. Ricky wins.
