LOL, what will Fox News try next?

Apparently it aired for the first time last night:

The 1/2 Hour News Hour is a half-hour television news satire show airing Sunday evenings on Fox News, first broadcasting on February 18, 2007. Creator Joel Surnow describes the show as "The Daily Show for conservatives."

He expanded on this for Variety

"You can turn on any show and see Bush being bashed. There really is nothing out there for those who want satire that tilts right."

Originally pitched as "This Just In", the show was turned down by the Fox Broadcasting late-night division before Fox News Channel chief Roger Ailes picked it up. Two pilot episodes have been taped, with the possibility of new shows being aired weekly. Cast and crew of the pilots include Kurt Long, Susan Yeagley, Manny Coto, Ned Rice, Jennifer Robertson and April Winchell.

On February 12th, Fox News aired a commercial for The 1/2 Hour News Hour on the Fox News Channel. Shown as a spoof "Public Service Announcement", the show warned that it may offend "The Left, The Far Left, Anyone Standing to the Left, Gay Penguins, Lawyers, The ACLU, Anyone With ACLU in Their Name, Democrats, People Who Voted for Democrats, People Who Know Democrats, Gay Penguins, Illegal Aliens, Space Aliens, Tom Cruise (Sean Penn in another similar promo)." This is illustrated by Surnow, "We're not looking to be balanced. Those shows are, and we're not. That's fine for them to want to go after everybody. For our show, it's a specific thing that we are delivering."

In mid-February, 2007, a preview clip of the show aired on YouTube and other online streaming video sites. This clip featured Kurt Long and Jennifer Robertson playing characters called "Kurt McNally" and "Jennifer Lang" in front of a live studio audience. The hosts primarily mocked Barack Obama, through jokes about his admitted teenaged drug-use, the media hysteria surrounding him and parody of the Oprah Winfrey magazine, O, entitled "BO," a satire of his "clean" image as famously quoted by Democratic Senator Joe Biden.

Anyone see the show?

Oh man, do they have double agents for the Daily Show/Colbert Report on that or what? Is Fox News making a parody of a parody of itself? Great.

that was "so fucking funny"

Indeed.

Oh god, that... was fucking terrible. It was never even slightly funny, except in a weird, "I can't believe they thought somebody would laugh at that" kind of way.

They didn't even use a live crowd, it was all just canned laughter and probably a few guys laughing watching the taping. It was just painful. Fox news fails at comedy so, so terribly.

It's like they sat down with Ann Coulter and some other people without anything that remotely resembles a sense of humor and tried to reverse engineer what makes "The Daily Show" funny...

That wasn't a comedy sketch, it was what failing miserably looks like. Oh, the agony.

I threw up a little in my mouth just now.

Either they had a laugh track playing or the only people who would go sit in the audience for this shit laugh like they've got a puppeteers hand up their ass. It looked like they showed an audience there at the beginning, and there was like that annoying guy who laughed too loud- you know what I'm talking about- during the sorry talking head's speech, but then it really did feel like a laugh track during the voice over.

Good god, it's like the only "comedy writers" they could get were the guys in the young republicans organization on campus that couldn't get the lampoon writers to stop making fun of them.

Fucking tragic.

I wasn't aware convervatives were capable of humor.

Oh, I saw a small crowd there in the opening title shot, but... for that size crowd, there sure as hell weren't many people laughing. And yeah, about that guy laughing just a little too loud... didn't that sound more than a little forced. Like the guy thought he'd earn brownie points by laughing way more than the joke warranted

It's embarrassing to even watch something like that. Maybe if they hired better writers, but I have no idea who they'd get that could only make potshots at the left given the state of the current administration.

The humor is so strained it's like watching a ten year old try to dead lift an engine block.

I'd probably laugh at that.

That's right. "Fair and Balanced" means as far to the right as humanly possible (and don't forget to throw in a few jokes about killing non-Christian leaders). Did you guys miss this part?:

Also: The "gay penguin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOwBEoj4trc)" commercial.

I was watching Hannity & Colmes when they intro'ed the show. I tried timing how long Colmes (the "lib" who makes the show "fair for both sides") was on-screen: 4 minutes. And most of that time was of him introducing the Rush & Coulter clip. Who'll be on their next episode? Hitler?

humor was weak. 'space aliens'.... some of my third graders make better jokes. So they obviously have a hard on for obama, except the depth of their jokes allude to what? body odor and his age? weak

They don't have the stones to make the incredibly obvious "The president's a nig...BONNNNNNNG" jokes.

As much as y'all hate this, I betcha it'll find a sizeable audience. See, most people don't laugh at political jokes because of how funny they are as they do at the political message.

Is it just me or did they steal their title from "This hour has twenty-two minutes?"

The only thing missing from the Rush/Ann segment to make it funny was sarcasm. Both of those two in the same room... it's a wonder the space time continuum didn't collapse under the enormous weight of their egos.

Worst show ever.

I like comedy. John Stewart is comedy. His jokes are funny. He makes fun of everyone, Bush, Clintons, anybody who does something dumb. This show is just attacking the left. They make it real clear that Obama is a nig and thats a nono because were a bunch of crazy neo-cons.

BTW REAL conservatives are the likes of George Washington, Abe Lincoln and Jefferson. Sure they may have had some different ideas, but they all had one thing in common, the interest of the nation.

Also, the bit about liberals being pansies? Im pretty sure I could fuck up most conservatives. Someone tell Jeff Monson hes a pussy...

Got to love their ACLU bit at the end.

Found another, they really, really hate the ACLU.

Well there show is a weekly thing, their next episode is this Sunday, but there's no telling when they actually film, their episode may already be in the can.

New episodes of the Daily Show should be next week if I'm not mistaken. I eagerly await their take on the 1/2 Hour News Hour.

ahm

I just think it's funny that fox news feels threatened by and competed with by a comedy station producing satire

Sun Wukong
25th February 07, 03:27 AM
That's about as bad as you can get. It's not even really satire, it's taking things horribly out of context for the purpose of confusing the general public who has no understanding of the use of precedence in the legal system.

If it's not alright for one person group to speak out because nobody likes what they have to say, then you can stop anyone from speaking out. If the conservative right had their way, there would never have even been a Civil Rights movement at all and the hate groups would still be more socially accepted than black people and jews.

Fucking hell.

What's really funny about the conservative hatred of the ACLU, is that if you want to start a prayer group, bible study, etc., and have it in public or at a school, guess who you call.

The ACLU.

That's because conservatives think they are funny, and that they are great at "putting people in their place", but can't see that in reality they are just total dicks. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmj6JADOZ-8&mode=related&search=)

That Jon Stewart clip is awesome. Whats even more awesome is that it was the nail in the coffin of Tucker Carlson's career.
