Was getting heckled and freaked on some black guy, called him a nigger a million times. I thought it was funny, niggers apparently didn't. His career? Over.

I heard about this on the radio this morning.

Either he's desperately trying to get another 15 mins of fame or the dude made a fatal error.

I'm calling both.

He's on Letterman right now. I'm not sure if he's taking a break from the lithium or if Crispin Glover blindsided him somewhere with 1000cc's of the nutjob. He seems really, really lost.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael Richards said Monday he spewed racial epithets during a stand-up comedy routine because he lost his cool while being heckled and not because he's a bigot.

"For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, I'm deeply, deeply sorry," the former "Seinfeld" co-star said during a satellite appearance for David Letterman's "Late Show" in New York.

"I'm not a racist. That's what's so insane about this," Richards said, his tone becoming angry and frustrated as he defended himself. A clip from the show played on CBS before "Late Show" aired Monday night.

Richards described himself as going into "a rage" over the two audience members who interrupted his act Friday at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Richards responded to the black hecklers with repeated use of the "n word" and profanities.

Jerry Seinfeld, who had issued a statement saying he was "sick over this horrible, horrible mistake" and calling it offensive, was scheduled as a Letterman guest Monday. He encouraged Richards to make a satellite appearance to talk about the incident, a CBS publicist said.

Richards, 57, who played Seinfeld's eccentric neighbour Kramer on the hit 1989-98 sitcom and whose major credit since was a failed 2000 comedy, hadn't spoken publicly about his remarks before "Late Show."

Richards deserved the chance to apologize, Seinfeld said on the "Late Show." Seinfeld added: "He's someone that I love, and I know how shattered he is about" the incident.

At one point, however, Richards expressed second thoughts about appearing on the "Late Show" when his use of the term "Afro-American" proved funny to some audience members.

"I'm hearing your audience laugh, and I'm not even sure that this is where I should be addressing the situation," he said in a tape of his appearance shown by CBS to reporters.

Comedian Paul Rodriguez, who was at the Laugh Factory on Friday during Richards' performance, said he was shocked.

"Once the word comes out of your mouth and you don't happen to be African-American, then you have a whole lot of explaining," Rodriguez told CNN. "Freedom of speech has its limitations and I think Michael Richards found those limitations."

His Laugh Factory tirade began after the two clubgoers shouted at him that he wasn't funny. A videotape of the incident was posted on TMZ.com.

He then paced across the stage taunting the men for interrupting his show, peppering his speech with racial slurs and profanities.

Moderating his tone at one point, Richards tells the audience, "It shocks you, it shocks you" and refers to "what lays buried."

While there is some chuckling in the audience throughout the outburst, someone can be heard gasping "Oh my God" and people respond with "ooh" after Richards uses the n-word.

Eventually someone calls out: "It's not funny. That's why you're a reject, never had no shows, never had no movies. 'Seinfeld,' that's it."

On Monday, about a half-dozen community activists gathered at the club to denounce Richards' remarks and demand an apology.

"These kind of comments hurt all of us," said protester Lita Sister Herron of the Youth Advocacy Coalition. She called Richards' comments hate speech.

The protesters also demanded an apology from the Laugh Factory. At a news conference a short time later, club owner Jamie Masada expressed remorse and said Richards will not be back at the club until he says he's sorry.

"This is one thing we don't tolerate. ... I personally apologize. I apologize from my heart," Masada said Monday.

Richards did appear at the club Saturday, without incident, but that was because he had told the club he intended to apologize, according to a Laugh Factory statement Monday.

Rodriguez, also at the news conference, said: "I kept expecting a punch line. It didn't come."

Veteran publicist Michael Levine, whose clients have included comedians George Carlin, Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield, called Richards' remarks inexcusable. Comics often face hecklers without losing their cool, he said.

"I've never seen anything like this in my life," Levine said Monday. "I think it's a career ruiner for him. . . . It's going to be a long road back for him, if at all."

Daryl Pitts, a Laugh Factory audience member interviewed by CNN, compared the incident to another recent celebrity controversy.

"You think about Mel Gibson and what he said, and put that in the context of this, it's very upsetting," Pitts said, referring to Gibson's anti-Semitic outburst during his arrest for drunken driving.

Scrutiny of Richards' remarks likely will continue but won't match the level prompted by Gibson's behaviour because Richards is far less famous, Levine said.

Comedian George Lopez told Los Angeles television station KTLA that he thought Richards' lack of stand-up experience may have been a factor.

"The question is you have an actor who is trying to be a comedian who doesn't know what to do when an audience is disruptive," Lopez said. "He's an actor whose show has been off the air, he shouldn't ever be on a stand-up gig."

'Seinfeld' star Richards apologizes for racist outburst

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Former "Seinfeld" star Michael Richards apologized days after unleashing an expletive-laden racist tirade during a stand-up performance at a famous Los Angeles comedy club.

Richards -- best known for playing wacky neighbor Cosmo Kramer in the smash-hit sitcom -- begged forgiveness for the volley of abuse he directed at two black audience members at the Laugh Factory on Friday.
The 57-year-old said in a recorded interview with chat-show host David Letterman he had flown into a rage after being heckled.
"I was at the comedy club trying to do my act and got heckled and I took it badly and went into a rage," Richards said.
"I'm really busted up over this, and I'm very, very sorry to those people in the audience, the blacks, the Hispanics and the white, everybody who was there and took the brunt of that anger, and hate and rage and how it came through."
Amateur video footage released by the Tmz.com celebrity news website showed Richards' erupt during his stand-up routine, uncorking a three-minute string of swear words at the hecklers, culminating in repeated use of the word "nigger."
Richards' former co-star Jerry Seinfeld voiced dismay over the outburst in a statement released to entertainment television show Extra on Monday.
"I am sick over this," Seinfeld said. "I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt."
In the video footage, Richards repeats a racist epithet several times to an audible chorus of gasps from the audience, before speculating that he might be arrested for his use of language.
At that point members of the audience can be seen leaving in droves while one of the targets of Richards' tirade shouts back abuse. Richards then leaves the stage before an unidentified compere offers apologies to the audience.
Angry audience members demanded an apology as owners of the Laugh Factory banned the comic from further appearances.
"He needs to make a public apology to everyone," audience member Darryl Pitts told CNN. "I feel like something has to be done about it. He threw those words around very cavalierly."
Pitts noted that Richards had also appeared to make a reference to lynching during the volley of abuse. "He mentioned hanging upside down from a tree ... it's very upsetting," he added.
Laugh Factory co-owner Paul Rodriguez told a news conference on Monday that Richards had been banned until further notice, saying he had been allowed to perform on the Saturday following the incident because they believed he would issue an apology to the audience.
"It was unfortunate, it was sad," Rodriguez said. "Mr Richards is banned. I was at the back watching this, and I kept waiting for a punchline that could justify the words before it. It didn't come."

This is a funny "nigger" joke.

"OMG U USED TO HANG!!!1!11 NIGGER!!11" is not. Fuck Kramer.

But, at the same time, after seeing him on the late show, I gotta say that he's not necessarily a bad guy. Racist? Yes. Intentionally so? No. Seems he needs to do some introspection and get a handle on himself and his feelings. Some of my families good friends have been racists. Our old neighbors used to be bigoted in various ways. Came from Europe somewhere. HATED blacks. Didn't know that when I lived next to them, but it came up on subsequent visits after we moved. Somewhere along the line they realized that we weren't so bad. After we moved out, a mixed race gay couple moved in, which I find hilarious. But anyways, they're much more tolerant and good hosts.

I can see what you mean.

The Late Show will be coming on in a couple of minutes for me, I'll be watching.

And I agree that it is hilarious that a mixed gay couple moved in next door to your old neighbors!

"Seinfeld" star Michael Richards, who unleashed a torrent of racial epithets at a pair of black hecklers at the West Hollywood, CA. Laugh Factory on Friday, has issued an apology Monday night on "Late Night With David Letterman.

Letterman: "Why don't you explain exactly what happened for the folks who may not know."

Richards: "I lost my temper on stage. I was at a comedy club trying to do my act and I got heckled and I took it badly and went into a rage and said some pretty nasty things to some Afro-Americans, a lot of trash talk, and uh..."

Letterman: "And you were actually being heckled or were they just talking and disturbing the act?"

Richards: "That was going on too."

Richards: "...You know, I'm really busted up over this and I'm very, very sorry to those people in the audience, the blacks, the Hispanics, whites - everyone that was there that took the brunt of that anger and hate and rage and how it came through, and I'm concerned about more hate and more rage and more anger coming through, not just towards me but towards a black/white conflict.

There's a great deal of disturbance in this country and how black feel about what happened in Katrina, and, you know, many of the comics, many of performers are in Las Vegas and New Orleans trying to raise money for what happened there, and for this to happen, for me to be in a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, you know, I'm deeply, deeply sorry.

And I'll get to the force field of this hostility, why it's there, why the rage is in any of us, why the trash takes place, whether or not it's between me and a couple of hecklers in the audience or between this country and another nation, the rage - "

Letterman: "But Michael, let me interrupt here for a second and ask a question about had the people doing the heckling or the people who were not paying attention, had they been white or Caucasian or any other race, what would have been the nature of your response then?"

Richards: "It may have happened. It may have happened. You know, I'm a performer. I push the envelope, I work in a very uncontrolled manner onstage. I do a lot of free association, it's spontaneous, I go into character...I don't know, in view of the situation and the act going where it was going, I don't know, the rage did go all over the place. It went to everybody in the room...."

Richards' publicist Michael Levine, whose clients have included George Carlin, Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield, said "I think it's a career ruiner for him. ... It's going to be a long road back."

Public figures of today are apallingly bad role models for the kids. Not because they're racists and dopeheads and homos and satanists, but because they're all like "Oh no, I am certainly not racist/gay/dopeheaded, it's all taken out of context, I only meant "nigger" as in "nice person", the muscular naked young man was only there to help me with my tax form, I use the crack pipe for this unspecified medical condition I got, I think Jews are wonderful people and should not at all be burnt in gas ovens etc.

I wish they'd just come out and say "YES, I hate niggers, kikes and wogs, smoke crack and love little boys in the ass. Whatchagonnadoboutit?"

I'd vote for a politician who was upfront about his personal corruption. Saves the public the disappointment of having to find out they voted a bastard into office in the first place.

What I mean is, there is an abject lack of decent racial slurs for white people, especially Germans.

That's because we're ascendent. Wait until China takes over. Then a Chinese comedian can go nuts, and start talking about the Gwailo in the audience, and how they used to be shot and hanged by the Central Committee for being reactionary bourgeoisie.
