Yes, she's fine as fuck. Vid quality doesn't do her, or her amazing thighs -- justice.
No, I have no idea how she avoided the wrath of Cindy Lauper's publishing company for this straight ripoff of Time After Time. (Presumably by cutting a deal and paying over 99% of royalties . . .) It became a huge hit, so I doubt she simply decided to fly under the radar.

Steelpan! Could easily have put this in the "Works of Art" thread, but whatever. This isn't some cheesy duo cranking out "Yellow Bird" for tourists to drink to, this is serious business: downright orchestral.
The song is Destra Garcia's "Bonnie and Clyde," the band is Marsicans, the arranger is the legendary Pelham Goddard (http://www.panonthenet.com/spotlight/pg2003spotlight.htm).
This is a rehearsal for New York's annual steel band competition, Panorama. They ended up taking third place, in a field of 13 bands. I believe the rules limit each band to 100 players -- yes, 100. Not all bands roll that deep, but probably half of them do.

You really need to hear pan live; the recording process does not do it justice.
And you're in luck, because Atlanta has its own Carnival, round about Memorial Day Weekend it seems:
http://www.peachcarnival.com/flyers/2007_atlanta_jouvert.jpg
Uncharacteristically, this "Jouvert" (pronounced JOO-vay) party seems to feature just sound systems,* though I can testify that Massive B is wicked. Also, Tony Tempo is a real good DJ. Still, I'm having a tough time navigating their website to find out when/where the pan is . . . perhaps its just mixed in to the parade?
Anyway, here's the website:
http://www.peachcarnival.com/ (http://www.peachcarnival.com/bands.php)
Anyone else trying to find some steelpan in his/her neck of the woods can check here (no guarantees that it's up-to-date):
http://www.tntisland.com/other-carnivals.html
I've always found Trini people delightful, and very welcoming to outsiders that want to share in their fun.
*Typically, Jouvert only features acoustic (i.e. steel) bands, no amplification.
EDIT: Duh, that's throwdown weekend, huh? Well maybe the BS crowd will need some R&R.

So it was about 1975 or 1976, and I'm reading CREEM magazine. There's a brief news item about Michael Nesmith, formerly of The Monkees. He was going to invest a big chunk of the family fortune into starting his own music video production company. Nesmith insisted music videos would be a big thing in a few years. This production company would be one of the very first, if not the first, dedicated to music videos.
Even before joining the Monkees, Nesmith had money. His mother was a pool typist who saw the need for, and invented, Liquid Paper. Big money followed.
Creem scoffed. I scoffed, "There goes the family fortune." I guess a lot of people scoffed.
I don't recall how it all played out exactly. I seem to recall Nesmith winning the first MTV "Video Of The Year" with this one:
dRWTz3zY1WY
One YT poster mentions he won the first "Video of the Year" Grammy with this one:
FA7TB4hX51w
So it turns out "Wool Hat" from the Monkees was a visionary.
Last I heard his video production company made him into like a gazillionaire.
Last I heard CREEM magazine is defunct, and my fortune is still out there somewhere waiting for me.

All these vids have the links removed.
Violation of sorts.
How sick is that?
A lot of the old posts do, but the recent ones should work. I know mine do.

I ran through this page clicking everyone, and all said no longer available. Now, the Bowie is not working, but others are.
Weird.

You're right, the Bowie's down. The rest of mine should be working though, I checked the lastest batch before posting. I might try and find an alternate vid for the Bowie.

Today is 'covers' day (or something)
The 'Easy Dub All Stars' realeased an album in 2003 called "Dub side of the moon'
It's Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' in a reggae/dub version.
It's really good.

If Jose did a better cover, I don't want to hear it.

This is alright, but not as good as the above.

Cover of Iggy Pop. Pretty much some of the best songs ever were covers, or have both good and bad covers.
PS: Everyone needs to see the covers Trent Reznor, Twiggy Ramirez and Peter Murphy have been cooking up. Peter Murphy being basically the inventor of goth music (lead singer of Bauhaus).

Here I thought I'd killed this thread. I was all guilty and everything.

The Yoshida Brothers do some great music. I'm very impressed by how well Shamisen blends with more traditional rock sounds.
This is probably the best cover of The Cure ever. There's been some very shitty ones. The Editors are just all around awesome. No real vid, just the song and a single title frame, if memory serves.

The original video for the song has some creepy as hell parts, too.
And this is something I stumbled across a couple of weeks ago:

I have a love hate relationship with this video. I feel evil every time I listen to this song, but I find this video oddly funny and very appropriate to the lyrics.
