William Shatner's cover of "Common People"...

Can't help it, I'm a dirty rotten socialist.

Lyric's
"Common People" originally by Pulp.

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College, that's where I caught her eye.
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and coke-cola.
She said fine and in thirty seconds time she said, I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you.
Well what else could I do - I said I'll see what I can do.

I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere, so it started there.
I said pretend you've got no money, she just laughed and said oh you're so funny.
I said yeah? Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here.
Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people,
you want to sleep with common people like me.
But she didn't understand, she just smiled and held my hand.

Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school.
But still you'll never get it right
'cos when you're laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall
If you call your Dad he could stop it all.

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw
Because there's nothing else to do.
Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you thru'
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that poor is cool.
I want to live with common people, I want to live with common people [etc..]

Actually, one of the guys uses a lot of "video game" sounds in his solos. Having grown up with them, I like them.

But yeah, you can only take so much of it at a time.

Also, you mean Through the Fire and Flames, not wire. I think. They don't have the song you're talking about.

I've met a bunch of Koreans that just fucking love country music... weirdest thing I ever saw. I'm from the country and I still don't understand the obcession with it. For the most part it's not even that good... especially the crap they write these days.

As far as I'm concerned, good Country and Western started dying in the 60's and died completely before the end of the 70's.

I hate it when a whole genre of music goes to crap. Like R & B... which used to be great, and now is old and tired garbage filled with synthetic sound and brain dead, coked up female vocalists who screech like harpies.

I tend to do the same, however, I'm hardly a fan of Vivaldi to be honest, though chamber/choral music from that era can be interesting now and then, there are only a few movements from the entire work that I enjoy.

Although it is always interesting to hear Vivaldi's influence in the music of other composers.

I find the flavour to be totally different though, RIB has many of the Thrash conventions, with Slayers trademark dissonance, KEM is basically Motorhead with some other stuff thrown in, great album though.

I'd take Metallica over Slayer anyday, to be honest.

Kill 'Em All is Show No Mercy. The band is kind of "meh" and they are trying to find their sound. RIB is Slayer's pinnacle, and MOP was Metallica's pinnacle. Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven are like Ride the Lightning and ...And Justice for All.

There were a few good ones on the Black Album too, and on Load, after that Metallica starts getting...meh..

It's like Megadeth for example, awesome stuff, starts getting meh. Currently I'm really enjoying Testament.

God don't say that around any 'Deth fans, they turn rabid and start shouting stuff.

I loved RIP, it has some of my favourite metal Guitar solos, it's less Sabbath influenced then 'Deths earlier offerings too, from a musical perspective.

Who? Gould or me?

I love Gould, he demonstrates SUCH a knowledge of classical convention, particularly the counterpoint, NOT just play them, but to understand and utilise them in a way that the posuers pouring out of conservatories never could dream.

I'm not a Pianist, but his technique was incredible, I love the Fusion of virtuoso with artistic sensibility and always provides an interesting listen.

Wait, what is that?...

One of the first death metal bands. Oddly enough, I can't find a single reference to religion in their two last albums (they only had three), which makes "atheist" kind of a weird name. Hell, maybe that was the point. But yeah, Unquestionable Presence is a great album, and their last one Elements is really good technically, although I wouldn't classify it as death metal. They even have some instrumental jazz songs in there...

Megadeth has Dave Mustaine. Dave Mustaine is the biggest pussy ever.

Muff-stain lost all credibility in 1990* when the big poof refused to fly in the wake of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. He pulled this trick off again in 2001 after 9/11, accompanied by those lame poser twats, Slipknot. (Biohazard and Slayer didn't stop touring though, which just goes to show that you can't keep a GOOD band down.)

Nonetheless, you'd have to be a fool to dismiss the classic albums Mustaine made in the 80s. In fact, I'd say they're pretty damn essential even now.

* The same year, ironically, that 'Rust In Peace' came out in. A watershed year in more ways than one, as the Alt. Rock scene also started making waves at this point.
