View Full Version : What is the best movie fight scene starring a real actor?

Steve

Sure there are plenty of action movies out there, but what is the greatest fight scene put on by a normally dramatic actor/ess?

My submission:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNvMmY0nWJE

One of the best fight scenes I've seen regardless of movie genre or actor.

The entirety of Ichi the Killer and most other movies by Takashi Miike, and Versus, which is in a similar style. Even the non-fighting parts of these movies are the best fight scenes ever.

I'm sorry, the whole "I fight you without putting my hands up!!" thing just doesn't do it for me.

That trailer creeped me out, MJS. The face sliding down was bleah. Horror movies like that just don't do it for me.

And I said 'only fights from those who are in it for drama.'

You win MJS.

It's not a horror movie. It's an awesome movie. Imagine warheads (the candy), motorcycles, leather jackets, guitars, and pompadour hairstyles. Now imagine a machine that sucks the awesome out of these items and injects it into a movie projector. The projector would then proceed to show Ichi the Killer.

Now you will suply the dramatic role they were in, right?

Matt Damon: Good Will Hunting.

The craziest thing about Ichi the Killer is how well-made it is. Japanese gore-soaked vomit-inducing shocker flicks are nothing new, but most of them have very low budgets, very crappy equipment, and very non-talented camera operators, and it totally shows.

Ichi the Killer can stand up next to most Hollywood movies in terms of gloss and finish.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1071413/ - the actor who played Ichi. Looking through his movies, quite a few of them are dramas.

That's right you little bitch.

This thread is about fighting using dramatic actors, not about creating drama.

Just because Nao Omori could murder all the faggots on the posters you hang on your walls isn't any reason to be a bitch.

Greatest? Define more please.

Is realism a prerequisite? Does in have to be set in a modern or historical paradigm?

Do we judge on skill level of participants or whether they look and feel the part in the movie?

Are we including weapons?

My suggestion: make up your own criteria, and then elaborate on your choice.

Yeah, that^^ sounds about right.

How about we widen the field to either fight scenes by normally non violent actors or fight scenes that look 'realistic' (for example, the fighters are not invincible and get hurt, etc.).

Just because you're fat and you smell doesn't mean you can go spreading lies and slander about great works of cinema.

And Dai Tenshi is blind so it's not like he could actually see the movie anyway.

He was just about the only redeeming quality in the film.

The rest of the movie was pretty much just a shock ride and an excuse for gore. I wasn't impressed with the plot or character development at all.

But that scene is realistic (as much as movies can be) in that the 'good guy' got messed up too.
