This show looks like it could be a lot of fun:

http://www.heroestheseries.com/

“Heroes” is a serial saga about people all over the world discovering that they have superpowers and trying to deal with how this change affects their lives.

The relatable superheroes include:

Peter Petrelli, a 30-year-old male nurse who believes can fly.

Isaac, a 28-year-old junkie who has the ability to paint images of the future when he is high.

Niki Sanders, a 33-year-old Las Vegas showgirl who can do incredible things with mirrors.

Hiro Makamura, a 24-year-old Japanese comic-book geek who literally makes time stand still.

D.L. Hawkins, a 31-year-old inmate who can transport himself through walls.

Matt Parkman, a beat cop who can hears other people’s thoughts.

Claire Bennet, a 17-year-old Texas cheerleader who defies death at every turn.

Not only are they discovering what having superpowers means to them but also the larger picture of where their superpowers come from. Eventually their superpowers draw them together when they try to evade the series’ antagonist, who wants to harness their super-DNA for himself.

Their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world.

The series will star Greg Grunberg (Alias), Leonard Roberts (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls), and Hayden Panettiere (Ally McBeal, Guiding Light).

Tim Kring (Crossing Jordan, Chicago Hope) is the series’ creator.

The pilot is set to be directed by Dave Semel (American Dreams, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Beverly Hills, 90210). Heroes will be produced by NBC/Universal/Tailwind.

--------------------

Unbreakeable was a pretty good movie, I'm surprised it's taken TV so long to catch on. Well, it was probably M. Night Shyamalan's taint that kept TV away, now that I think about it...

This of course brings up the question: What superpower would YOU wish to have?

And then that of course brings up the question: What superpower would you wish NOT to have?

I'm still thinking about my answers...

No actually, this is pretty fucking good. I watched the pilot and it kicked all sorts of ass. It deals less with their super-powers and moreso themselves as people. The pilot's floating out there somewhere.

If they had to be "realistic" in the sense that the human body could technically perform, I'd like to be the best at everything. I mean, you know how people say, "There's always someone better than you", well I want to be that guy at the end of the chain, and this would be in pretty much everything. I would just be better at everything than everybody. That'd be pretty cool.

A power I wouldn't like to have is lasers shooting from my eyes. That would fucking hurt.

I wouldn't compare this to Mutant X; granted both Mutant X and Heroes obviously borrow heavily from Marvel's penultimate super hero bunch, but where as Mutant X is little mroe than a rebranding- for god's sake X is in the title- Heros appears to be a little mroe innvolved than that. We'll see what we get, but from the preview alone I know it has better production values, acting, direction, and writing than Mutant X.

A show I'd like to see someone try again though is actually Generation X. There was a made for TV movie on Fox back in like 96 or something, can't recall whether it was before or after the dreadful Nick Fury starring The Hoff. Really anyone of the X titles would be great for a TV series, live action please, we've had enough cartoons.

Anywho, back to Heroes, I can't wait to watch it tonight.

Well, the pilot did what it was designed to do, but I'll reserve judgement for when the actual series starts showing it's worth. I'm already kinda teetering on not liking it. It shows promise, but in the world of super hero TV things have a way of majorly sucking despite high hopes.

Steve
26th September 06, 03:14 PM
I think it's pretty solid right now, shows some good promise. The only thing that would really mess it up for me is if they screw up the super villian(s).

Whole thing felt kind of cliché to me.

They wanted to introduce all, or at least most of their characters in this first episode, and they wanted stories to be already in motion- really jump into the action. In the case of the showgirl mom just working to pay the bills and raise her genius son all alone while hiding from the mob, this felt particularly par for the course, banal, done to death. The senator and the nurse brother team seem alright on paper and all, but I didn't like the actors' performances, maybe that will improve. The cheerleader felt like a pale shade of recent teen heroines/super-heroines; "oh woah is me, I'm pretty, but I have problems [powers] too! wahwahwah"- Buffy did that shit best with VM coming in a close second. And the drugged out artist who sees the future, meh, don't get me started. How everyone was so interconnected just felt way too forced to me; honestly, the shadowy government agent chasing down our intrepid Indian professor cab driver hero is also the father of the invincible cheer leader, WOW!

The only thing I found amusing was Hiro, and that's because he's an honest expression of what the writers are doing. He's a huge fucking dork who references Star Trek and the X-men when discussing his abilities and life. He seems genuinely excited by what he can do, unlike, say, our emo cheerleader, and is played with unabashed exuberance that had me smiling most of the time he was on screen.

I'll give this show a little while to find its feet, but I have to say this first episode has not sucked me in to the series.

We'll see if my disposition improves next week.

At one point I was going to post about how great it is that this series doesn't present all the main characters as being 'overly photogenic' (like Mutant X, or any other action based TV series of late).

Hiro is the only "comic relief" the show has right now. Everyone else is so damn depressed and/or serious. Unless they find someone to replace him, I dont see the writers killing him off anytime soon. Loved the fakeout at the end though.

To me, the biggest revelation is the introduction of the supervillain.

But anyway, the questions I have so far, although it's only two episodes in:

Is there supposed to be some relationship between the eclipse and the people who suddenly realized they have these abilities?

Will this big nuclear whatchit have something to do with the serial killer or the dude(cheerleader's father) who seems to be chasing after these "Heroes"?

What is it with the Doctor's ability to enter a room unnoticed? Does he go invisible or something? How come none of these intruders ever hear him walk into an apartment? He must have the r3al ninjitsu.

I still don't quite understand why the cheerleader, who is so worried about her appearance, filmed herself surviving all those falls? If she's so concerned about people finding out, why would she make hard evidence about it? She doesn't seem very bright.

Maybe watching Lost has got me overanalyzing this show too.

Wikipedia already has a bunch of info about the show on it, here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_%28TV_series%29).

Funny and iteresting bit of info from Wiki:

Emerson lawsuit

On October 2, 2006, Emerson, the company that makes the popular In-Sink-Erator garbage disposals, filed suit in federal court against NBC regarding a scene that appeared in the pilot episode. The scene depicted Claire Bennet reaching into an active garbage disposal to retrieve a ring, and severely injuring her hand in the process. Emerson's suit claims the scene "casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product" by suggesting that serious injuries will result "in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one."

Emerson is asking for a ruling barring future broadcasts of the pilot, which is available on NBC's website and has already aired on NBC Universal-owned cable networks USA and Sci Fi. It also seeks to block NBC from using any Emerson trademarks in the future.[8]

It is worth noting that Emerson is also an appliance market competitor with General Electric, the owner of NBC.

Ok, here's where the TV show makes a story line anachronism:

In episode two when Hiro finds the artist guy dead, he's looking through the comic book trying to figure out what happens next. He's at the end of the comic book, doesn't know what to do next, asks what happens next to himself but there's nothing else in the comic...

However, in episode 3 the comic book apparently goes on at length telling him new information, where to go and what is going to happen. Hiro would have clearly known what to do in episode 2 were this information in the comic before hand.

Blah, and now i'm officially a fanboy geek arguing somantics about a sci-fi TV show. Holy crap, has my life fallen so far down that I'm reduced to this?

Well, we would have to consider that the comic he had when he found the artist is in the future (where it ends with the nuke). So perhaps when he traveled back to his original time the comic changed to being a current event comic (from his original time, to fix the time space continuum, or whatever).

So I guess I'm saying that the issue in episode 2 dealt with stuff after the issue he had in episode 3.... Granted, I'm just pulling things out of my ass right now. As I mentioned I was doing a couple things at once while watching the latest show.

Dear god, I fear I may have reached the point of no return.

So 3 episodes into the series it's already fucked up?

Hiro's Blog (http://blogs.nbcuni.com/hiro_blog/2006/10/let_it_ride.html)

This actually did amuse me.

Let It Ride
んちゃ. I'm back in America! \(^o^)/ And I'm blogging from my cell phone. This is going to be expensive so I gotta make it quick.

So using Mister Isaku's comic as my strategy guide, I came back to the present, saved a girl's life, picked up Ando-kun, and flew to America. How did I save a girl's life? Easy. I froze time. (>_<) (o.o) \(^o^)/
My own Star Platinum's The World!

After my MP regenned, (it took a while before I could stop time again) I tried it again and I was able to stop time just a bit longer. It feels like I can control it. So I think I can master Time Freeze. I just hope I don't hit a peak at 5 seconds like Jotaro.

Teleportation and time travel is a completely separate issue. I thought I was only teleporting to New York, but I travelled through time as well. It does seem that I need to level up my skills more, but how do I level up? Do I need more MP? Raise my Job Skill? How do I get XP? Hmm. Oh no. How would I fight an enemy? ((T.T; )(; T.T)) I can't really fight. No weapons. My current spells would be Quick, Return, and Teleport. I think my Teleport would work on boss fights. I hope. But they would all be non-party casts. It would be good game Ando-kun. So I can't run away and go out of combat. I need my Marle and Lucca or a weapon. Too bad I can't learn Meteo. Hmm. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to approach an encounter with an enemy. I need the XP and the Gil. I digress.

I wish there was a guide on how to teleport and time travel. It would be very handy right now. The comic doesn't talk about how to use the power. I guess that's my own fault for just blindly following a strategy guide rather than figuring it out on my own. And it ended as well. "To be continued..." Boo. Looks like we're on our own now. (O.o) I could use my own personal Dr. Emmett Brown or Yoda right now.

Speaking of Yoda, it looks like we're in Tatooine right now. Supposedly, this is the road to Las Vegas, but it's just sand everywhere. It feels like we're about to be attacked by Jawas. Ooh. We're just like the droids. Dibs on R2D2! I'm on a mission with my cyborg translator, アンドウロイド to deliver a message to Mister Isaku. "Isaku-san, you're my only hope." o(^^o)(o^^)o No, wait. I can't be R2D2. I'm Luke, master Jedi! Must. Find. Lightsaber.

Oops, good game phone bill. (T.T) Vegas, here we come. Red five, I'm going in!

時は動き出す、
Hiro

P.S. Thanks for your help on "landslide". Another question. I was studying my phrase book. What does "Let it ride" mean? What is "it" and what is "it" riding? Rodeo term?

New episode tonight, rock on.

My bet is that the Good Dr. Suresh's neighbor isn't working for Sylar, but is in fact working for the MIB guy that wacked his dad.

Unless Sylar wacked his dad, in which case, I still believe the girl is a MIB plant.

EDIT -

I don't think they killed the cop. They looked like they were trying to strip memories and/or powers from him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excellent episode which revealed the following -

1 - How the stripper's power functions
2 - Hiro's current and potential for future powers.
3 - Female version of Kenny's ethics for dealing with criminals
4 - Druggy boy's cataract eyes when he's predicting stuff

Anyhow, Hiro is definitely one of the best characters on the show. The ease in which he got punched out was .gif worthy.

Thoughts -
So far it'd appear that those two brothers have to be together to fly. Is it a "Wonder Twins Powers Activate" kind of deal? Because if this starts being a "City of Villains" type series where aspiring super humans are recruited to either side, the way the brothers are written will require for them to both be on the same side to use their powers.

Of course they could always be on opposite sides and only have cool bird fights when they face off. But who knows, frankly if the younger brother can't fly on his own, he's kind of useless. So far anyways.

Now that we've discovered how the stripper's power works, it'll be interesting in seeing how they define the limits of her powers. So far they appear to be Wonder Woman-ish.

Questions still remain as to what exactly that black guy's powers are. Obviously he's a psychic but he looks kinda' "anti-psyker" and can erase memories or something. Who knows.
Anyhow, that's enough for now.

EDIT

Something else that occured to me. When do the brother's elections happen? I'm thinking the villains might use the piece of blackmail they now have on him to procure the nuclear bomb.

The politician can fly. His brother can't fly at all. He just leeches powers from those around him. He explained that this episode.

Claire choosing to deal with her rapist is fine by me. You know he damn well remembered what happened to her that night. Funny how in Isaac's painting she seems to be under attack in that theater.

I'm pretty sure that whole cheerleader-running-from-shadow thing is stil yet to come, and the killing her murderer is unrelated. At the end of the show they dropped the whole "Save the cheerleader, save the world" thing, so I imagine she'll face a fair bit of peril.

Hiro at the end was fantastic! The katana really piqued my interest...

There must be some awesome battles coming up. Perhaps an episode with multiple Hiros from different times working together, or would that be one of those 'it destroys the universe' type things?

In regards to the cop, I wonder if 'they' went after him first since he would be the biggest threat to their plans being exposed. It was kinda a bummer to not see him get more attention.

I dunno. There sure is alot of stuff that makes my head hurt at this point. I mean, if he's coming back in time from a future that requires him to wear black leather and a katana, how on earth did that future even come to pass with his power to TRAVEL THROUGH TIME? Couldn't he just keep trying until success was achieved?

My half-assed predictions for "surprise scenes":

1. Leech-Power guy is gonna get mortally wounded while he's with cheerleader. He'll be fine, of course (because he's with cheerleader), but the stupid half of the audience will get a good scare.

2. Flying-Politician goes all evil. Yay, Whatever.

3. Hiro will take leech-guy into the future at some point. We'll get to see all kinds of awesome future war kinda stuff.

Sun Wukong

My predictions and observations for the show:

1. The leech guy is potentially the toughest out of all the characters since he can use whoever's power is near him... possibly allowing him to use everyone's powers near him simultaneously... making him a bad dude in super powered fight.

2. Hiro is gonna get more air time than some because he's obviously the most popular character so far; which I'm cool with. He and his 'sidekick' are also the comic relief... so he's going to be a steady character.

3. This show already has potential for spin-off's; which make's me a happy camper since I've been waiting for a good super-hero non-animated TV show with high production values for a long time. So far, the show is pretty good, with potential to get better or worse depending on which 'sell out' media producer hack the network puts in charge.

4. The crazy stripper chick is the show's obvious anti-hero. One part Mommy, one part raging homocidal psychopath. I see her playing the field on both sides of the moral aisle while she defends herself and her 'cub' like a wounded grizzly bear from anything she see's as a possible threat... good and bad aren't going to mean much to her as long as she's taken care of.

5. The MIB guy will probably try to recruit/spare his adopted daughter in some possibly demented fashion.

6. The cheerleader is headed towards being on the recieving end of a lynch mob. The QB rapist is probably going to survive the crash and do everything he can to get revenge. My guess is he's gonna try to burn her alive. Anyway you cut it, she's leaving way too long and suspicious of a trail to follow. She's gonna be exposed sooner than later at this rate.

7. Dr. Suresh's neighbor is definitely up to no good. I'm betting she's the one who offed his dad.

8. The painter's heroin addiction is a little too much for TV, I think. He's going to get cleaned up, die or go insane eventually.

Agreed on most parts except I don't think that Suresh's sex bunny is going to be a bad guy. WAY too obvious and as this show has shown us, not everything is that obvious. I bet the cheerleader kills the boy guy, but throw some sort of phorensics whatchamahoozits they figure out that she was in the car with him also.

Anybody noticed these few things though:

- The "F" symbol that is in the Issac's paintings in Episode 2, and the tattoo that Porno Mom has on her back look similar to half a DNA strand with only 2 of the Nucleobases?

- That we only see the cheerleader in her cheer uniform (Super Hero Costume?) unless she's almost nearly naked or in that labcoat to hide her nudeness? Also, where did she get the other Cheerleading outfit? Those are expensive, my sisters did cheer in highschool and it cost almost $500 for an outfit.

- What's up with the little girl who didn't get murdered with the rest of her family? Does she have some special powers too? And does the crazy whorish black chick have powers? Powers of sex maybe?

I'm pretty sure most of the filming has already been completed. Next season he might get more air time but it's really up to how the producers want to do it.

The mom doesn't particularly seem to like hurting people. But when her other side comes out, all bets are off. Also don't discount her son, isn't he like "Forge" from X-Men?

5. The MIB guy will probably try to recruit/spare his adopted daughter in some possibly demented fashion.

We don't even know what their intention is. Are they teamed up with Psyler or were they the people who took out the Arab guy's father because he made the existance of "Heroes" public? Are they the ones stealing people's brains to try and map out what gives normal humans super-powers?

Okay so the guy's a rapist. He accidentally murdered her before and "disposed" of the body. He had no remourse for what he had done when she confronted him about it. On the other hand, as far as he knows, she can't be killed.

I'll agree that he'll either try to take her out by exposing her or finding some way to kill her. Or the much more unlikely event that he stops what he's been doing and gives her "deer in the headlights" look everytime he see's her from now on.

7. Dr. Suresh's neighbor is definitely up to no good. I'm betting she's the one who offed his dad.

Yeah, she seems like a shady character. Doesn't seem particularly upset that a man was just waving a gun around in her apartment and appears eager to help whatshisface.

8. The painter's heroin addiction is a little too much for TV, I think. He's going to get cleaned up, die or go insane eventually.

According to Hiro, someone steals his brain. My guess is that it would be the MIB and they're attempting to steal people's brains to figure out what's different in them that gives them the powers they have. I'm hoping he survives, since I think his prophety-ness is cool.

Psylar is with the "MIB" guys. First we have the S tatoos. Then, at the Sylar killings, the brains are gone. The voice on the phone sounded a lot like the cheerleaders father as well. Then, one of the only ones looking for Sylar just happens to be snatched up immediately after confronting him.

He said he can't do it while he's sober, so I would guess that is just it (means he's tried). He can't.

Cool that the bro with the mimic talent could paint without previous talent (again showing that he is a true mimic).

The flying thing, not surprised. Compared to all of the other talents that have been shown, flying so far is the weakest.

The cop being released was interesting, esp with him making points with his wife for reading her thoughts (if only we all could be so lucky....).

But I thought it was cool how it showed that he hasn't been able to control his mind reading and it seriously messes with him to a negative conclusion. For the time being.

Hiro doesn't see the whole "six degrees of seperation" thing quite yet. He's still focused on good ol' future painter Isaac.

I don't know what to think of Claire's father. He seems evil, but when he could kill certain people with special powers, he doesnt, even goes as far as to protect them (e.g. emptying serial-rapist quarterback's memories). And nobody's even MENTIONED the potential for Claire's dad to be a good guy! I mean, come on, although he's pretty fuckin' shady, his job could be the kind that requires heavy handed tactics, know what I mean? It's a long shot, but I wouldn't count anything out at this point (he DID let Matt the Cop live, after all).

I can't wait to see how Niki's conversation with herself works out.

Now clairs father got the cop....got the congressman.

And is Claires dad working for Syler or against?

Seperate?

He's a man in black. He looks, he listens, he keeps everyone dumb, pacified and feeds everyone shit.

He's definitely not a good guy, but he's not necessarily the "bad guy" either. I expect he's not above killing people who cause him problems. His job is probably to observe the superhuman community and make sure the government has a way of staying on top of everything.

He may have killed Sadish's dad or Sylar may have done it. That's probably something they'll keep under wraps until later.

Whatever the case, I didn't count on her dad pulling a cover up on the QB. That'll probably at least keep her out of the cluthes of an angry mob for awhile.

But of course Sylar is going to be the one to come for her... I still can't figure out who set's off the A-bomb though... could be Sylar, could be someone else. Hell, maybe Sylar's her biological father which is why they are both invulnerable?

It's all just guesswork.

I don't think so, i think he's out of the picture for the most part. Now he's just going to be another possible story hook device or possibly some sort of guilty conscience weight around the chearleader's neck.

She might try to help him after the accident, but I don't know what will come of that. Whatever it is, I don't think they intended him to be a permanent part of the story line.

If anything he might turn into a whipping boy, with all manner of bad things happening to him until you almost want to feel sorry for him... which the cheerleader is bound to do.

I'm not sure what they'll do with him. I'm not so sure he'll stick around for long though. They've barely used him so far and I think they might just write him out of the story. She has too many characters interacting with her and the cast of this show really spreads time thinly between the actors... I'm guessing they'll start cutting un-necessary characters out of the show soon.

Or just use them as disposable characters they can easily write in and out of the script existing solely as plot devices and subplot hooks.

That said, I like DL. I think he could be a pretty good character. Frankly, I hope he fucking killed Nikki, she annoys me. Rather certain he didn't though, and that she'll be chasing after her wayward husband and son in something of a reversal on the old cliche' (mother and child on run from horrible father- ie Kindergarden Cop).

Pretty certain Claire's biological parents were a ploy on the part of her adoptive father to get her to talk about her abilities.

It really seems that they might be working too hard to connect everyone together.

No. Look at the map. Dots all over the world.

A little more realism and less magical finding each other, please.

Well, you've got 2 brothers, a father/daughter team, a gang under the "S" symbol, a cop hunting a mutant, a husband/wife team and several parties actively hunting or otherwise seeking mutants including the creepy guy, hiro, the painter, prof's son etc. So its not coincidental.

I dont see DL killing Nikki. It looks that way, but it seems that DL is too nice a guy to do that to his wife, even if he thinks she backstabbed him.

One thing I don't get. Why was Future Hiro so ambiguous about who Peter had to save? Save the cheerleader? How about a name and a general location. I actually think we see far more developments on Heroes than Lost, which I am still a fan of btw. At least the plot has advanced. A couple of questions have been answered. We know for certain that Niki's evil half set up DL. We have a timeframe in which the bomb is to go off. Peter has already made conctact with Isaac. Eden is, like suspected, an agent for creepy glasses guy. Unlike Lost, Heroes doesn't have the frustrating habit of answering one question with a dozen other questions.

Btw, there's a pretty detailed breakdown of each episode on Wikipedia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Heroes_episodes).

Or...maybe he has something in his pocket?

Yeah, or just walking out of his clothes all together (course, he makes his clothes go through walls, so there must be some sort of proximity thing going on). There must be more to it...

But TV shows, or even movies, don't like to get that detailed. To much work, not enough easy action.

so is Claire's friend whatshisface something special too, maybe not powered up, but something else? When Claire asks him to be her date to homecoming, he says he couldnt "for a number of reasons" or something to that effect. Sounded like he was alluding to something. He has a myspace apparently that lists him as a Wiccan. If this show goes all magic on us, I might just turn it off.

If he had powers, i'm sure he would have revealed them at some point during the whole multiple-deaths-of-claire filming.

I think that was him admitting to her that he actually is gay, that there's something to the crap Jackie was talking..... I think.

I'd rather it wasn't what he was trying to say, but that's what it seemed like to me. Cause if you're straight you don't turn that girl down just cause she isn't comfortable with herself yet or some such nonsense.

the thing that throws me off is the phrase "number of reasons", as if him being gay is not the only reason he would say no. I could be reading more into it than I should, but who knows.

I bet he has this "I don't want to ruin our relationship" type of thing going on.

I bet he's gonna guilt her into helping peter.

Perhaps he's into SM (heavy on the S part), and knows that he couldn't get off with her (she just heals after every flailing etc)...

*looks at what he just typed*

Wait a tick, that'd be perfect!!!

Just joking around, folks.

Too bad they wont put that in the story...the show is too appropriate.

Just wait for the 'special features' on the DVD release.
