Who is/was the worst president in history?

The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor. This will put things in perspective:

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11. Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims.

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From
1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never
attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated
two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 30 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home. Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch
Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less
time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy
the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police
after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our military is GREAT!

Dude, we so didnt have any backing for this war. I mean seriously 70+ countries went with us, but Germany and France didnt...

So wrong!

We didn't start the war on terror.
This is the lynchpin of this whole arguement, Zeta.

The fact is, however, the war was not about terror, it was about WMD. That's what people are bitching about.

If Bush had said "Hey, we're gonna go kick some terrorist ass," then it would be a different matter. But the fact is, Bush lied to get backing for his war on terror. Sothe entire hinge of that whole diatribe is invalid, making the entire diatribe invalid... Bush truely IS the worst president in history if you take what that editoral rant uses as valid points for his presidency.

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From
1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Japan attacked us then declared war on us. FDR declared war in turn on Japan, the following week Germany declared war on the US.

Dude, we so didnt have any backing for this war. I mean seriously 70+ countries went with us, but Germany and France didnt...

We have a bunch of countries that we gave a large amount of foreign aid to or promised other favors to in order to gain their support. The only country that is there because they are truly in support of the US is England.

Our military is GREAT!

The question is worst President in history, yet the summation is that our military is great. Is that to imply that our military sucked in all these previous wars? As a percentage of total population the Civil War killed/maimed more people then any US War, I guess that makes Lincoln our worst President (and he was a Republican).

Shit like this is just an example of partisan stupidity at its best. If this guy really cared about helping Bush out he would be telling him to get off his ranch and give the impression he is engaged as President. While GW is grilling steaks and having yet another vacation we have the worst week of conflict in Iraq. Paul Bremer answers Tim Russert’s question as to who we will turn control of Iraq over to with the answer “That’s a good question Tim”, the writer should maybe ask GW to put some thought into that.

FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Carter, and Clinton are not running for President but lets not confuse the issues with facts.

Holy hell I agree with 'Rauk

And just to be anal here, we have not declared war since 1941. A declaration of war takes an act of congress, which has not been done in any of the conflicts since then.

And regarding the WMD issue. GW authorized the invasion of Iraq stating that there was credible evidence that Hussein had WMD and was intent on using them, despite the evidence to the contrary from UN weapons inspectors. 1 Year later and we still have absolutley no evidence that he had any WMD since the end of the first gulf conflict.

Kind of odd that now he has been removed from power, we come to find out that Hussein was a source of stability for the region eh?

What pisses me off is GW is making jokes about the War in Iraq.... making jokes about our troops getting slaughtered, innocent people that aree only there because of the mess he made, being take hostage and murdered, and insurgents rising faster than penis in a porno parlor.

On the other hand, has any seen him lately? This man is looking OLD!! I mean, he's aged 10-15 years in the last 3 years, it's really odd.

Heh there's a big difference between a country with the most powerful Navy in the world at the time almost successfully crippling our Pacific fleet and invading/taking over our territories vs. a bunch of zealots hijacking a plane with middle school stationary and flying it into a building.

Korea and Vietnam came down to politics vs. Russia. Hell, Russian pilots even secretly flew around in chinese MiGs to attack us in Korea. You can argue plenty about the validity of both conflicts, however democrat AND republicans perpetuated the aggressive stace vs. Communism (And the U.S.S.R. in general) well into the 80s.

However the big difference is that there was an undeniable threat, at the very least in terms of military might, from Japan, Germany, and Russia. Iraq was a threat to a few of it's neighbors and certain segments of it's population. However, this administration tried to paint Iraq as posing a large military threat to OUR nation...then failed to find any such threat. It's akin to if, during the Cold War, we invaded Russia and discovered they had no nuclear stockpiles. "Heh, sorry comrade...we were just fucking with you! Just geting you back for that Berlin shit in the 40s."

You can argue against Clinton as well, but at least the operation was done under pretenses which were satisfied for the most part. This administration threw itself a football, fumbled it, blamed the QB, and is now trying to convince people that the play still had merit.

Oh yea...bad presidents. Probably Andrew Jackson.

The worst would probably be the other George.... Washington. That guy was a complete and utter fucktwat. I mean seriously, every president since him has been WAAAAY better. He sucked so bad he wasnt even in a party! Unemployment rate was like a bajillion percent all through his terms, AND the only jobs people did have were like growing corn or some shit.

In conclusion, George Washington, not George Bush, was the worst prez EVAR!

I have to agree Nikalos. Also, James Madison was one short mother fucker. He was like what, 5'3 or 5'4? NO WAY he would have won today. One look at him on TV and people would bust out laughing! We dont elect midgets, sorry. :(
