I bought system shock 2 at blockbuster for 10 bucks (and I got dungeon keeper 2 with it)
I played it for a grand total of 10 minutes before putting it back in the box and under my chair where it collects dust.

I'm at school right now, unfortunately, wasting my lunch period because Im extremely bored, so Ill check out this site and comment on it later.

Bit torrent isn't an download accellerator, and is supported by the site. Read what bit torrent is here: http://bittorrent.com/introduction.html

Go to the executable file, right click on it and go to its properties. Select the Compatability tab and select Windows 95 Compatability mode. You may need to set it to 256 colours as well.

Yeah same here. I'm on mission 14 and I have my main squad with powered armor and heavy weapons, and the "suicide bitches" with no armor and stock rifles that replaced the poor bastards from last mission. I have yet to have a single suicide bitch survive a mission. :(

Osiris
27th September 04, 02:08 AM
Im on 15 I think. Whatever the volcano is. Havea feeling Ill just have to accept some losses there.

Suicide bitches? I don't know what you mean. I have an entire squad full of armored troops. One squad consists of my 2nd lt (me) in a class 2 command suit along with 2 guys in class 2 maurader suits. They're my quick strike squad. On the propaganda mission they kicked all types of ass bouncing from spot to spot making things quick.

Next up is my basic squad of second and 3rd class maurauders along with the medic and engineer. 6 total and these make up my main force. They fight alongside group one most of the time. They're only seperate to keep 1s mobility up as 3rd class suits cant bounce.

Last is my squad of three scouts. My 3rd Lt (no, not the lt, someone else. o forgot who) has the longest range and holds the nukes so he's in a 3rd class suit. Along side him I have a second class scout for fire power in a pinch and another 3rd class with rockets. That set up kicks all types of ass.

Also, my medic and engineer are suit capable so I don't have to go to completely fresh recruits if a couple men die. Then theres my stash of slightly trained men in my selection so if I lose a LOT I still have people to fill me team with and in a mission or two I should be armored up again.

feedback
27th September 04, 02:14 AM
Maybe I'm just a shitty strategist, that's why I lose my guys. That volcano mission is a bitch, there's some spots where you get pyschicly attacked and your dudes die before you know what's happening. I just move around all my guys at once, bring 3 rocket guys and make them squad #2, then give my two specialists #3 and #4. Maybe I should use smaller individual squads like you.

Oh, little tip: hitting "space" will re-adjust the camera to the units you have selected.

feedback
27th September 04, 02:15 AM
Hey wait, the 2nd class marauder suits can bounce? I never noticed that.

Osiris
27th September 04, 02:18 AM
All second class suits can bounce. They also carry special weapons and equipment if you didn't notice.

Anyway, I keep my guys in one large group too. I just split them when a problem comes up. Say I have to nuke something tough. Like those hoppers guarding the mountain base on the one before the volcano. I need time to gt the shot right so I have groups one and two hold off the bugs while i send 3 to go take a shot.

feedback
27th September 04, 02:21 AM
Goddamn, that would have been good if the game pointed that feature out to me earlier. Oh well.

Osiris
27th September 04, 02:22 AM
Did you notice your new weapons that come with the suit? Anyway, to bounce, select any second or first class suits and hit b.

feedback
27th September 04, 02:25 AM
Yeah I got those, but I guess I don't pay attention to those little icons at the bottom too much. Yeah I upgraded the chaingun and flamethrower to MK2, they're awesome at chewing up bugs.

Osiris
27th September 04, 02:28 AM
Flamethrowers kick ass. The best weapon though is the maurader suit missles. Like a missle loaded shotgun that hits as hard a nuke and cant be deflected. Turnng a squad of mauraders towards a crazy bughole ad opening up with those is WONDERFUL.

feedback
27th September 04, 02:29 AM
yup it's great when a tanker pops up when you have a couple marauders selected and all you have to hit is "Y". This game is awesome, when my classes start it's going to fuck me up until I beat it.

Osiris

Yeh, those thinsg really handle the tanker problem and let me save my nukes for swarming bugholes.

Fucking hell, have you gotten to the arrest Holland mission? Those fucking hoppers are killing me, my idiot guys decide to stay off on their own for no reason and they get killed before I know what happened. I was doing alright this time around just now, but I decided to jumpjet over to a bug-bunker because I had no missles and those bastards killed 3 of my marauders and my Lt. in mid air, so at that point I just aborted.

An in-game save feature would save me a lot of time in this game.

29th September 04, 02:38 PM
Thanks, Sam. I'll try it.

Osiris
29th September 04, 02:47 PM
Yeh, I got Holland. That mission is a bitch. Don't jump around hoppers cause they'll fuck your shit up good. At the very least they'll tear the suit off. I lost my best trooper at the volcano, but no one else. Unfortunately, the Holland mission took damn near everyone. I barely got out of there alive. I had my Lt and my 3rd Lt along with assorted lesser soldiers, but besides that it was a massacre. Lost a lot of good men. You're gonna have to take your losses on that one cause its ugly.

Osiris
29th September 04, 03:19 PM
Oh, I figured out the solution to the pychic attacks while I was on the volcano mission. Every mission, go for the closes brain asap. I use my scout cam to find the thing and then send my mauraders and maybe the commander on the bounce to go kill it. Ignore everything in your way even when you get to the brain. Kill it and for a couple secs the bugs will be disoriented. This will end the psychic attacks in your immediate area, though they may resume when you approach another brain. As for the brain itself, be careful around it. It can force you not to fire, deflect missles, tear off armor and fuck up your squad selections.

feedback
29th September 04, 06:16 PM
Thanks, I suspected a nearby brainbug did that but I wasn't sure. I'm about to retry the holland mission, I'm going to take my MIST trooper and run him down to the waypoint on the last island to try and trigger the next objective while all my guys wait somewhere else. I'll just keep cloaking him over and over, hopefully it will work.

Osiris
29th September 04, 06:25 PM
Thanks, I suspected a nearby brainbug did that but I wasn't sure.

I figured they must've had some purpose so on volcano I went off and killed it asap. The mission was MUCH easier and I saw no psychic bugs.

feedback

I beat the holland mission with 6 guys standing in power armor, and nobody else at all. The next mission is a piece of cake since you get the absolutely bad-ass plasma guns and grade 1 power armor. I'm on this wierd teleporting mission right now where I'm sure there's some kind of puzzle I need to solve, since my mission is to kill all the bugs but there's bugs constantly teleporting in at 3 locations all over the map.

it's an RTS like myth, you can rotate the camera but you can't move it where there isn't one of your units. You get a set number of recruits through the game, and they'll get promoted after picking up experiance during missions, if they survive. The trick is getting all your troopers to survive each mission so they all get promoted and have access to the power-armor and heavy weapons.

Ummm, no. GC2 is a full fledged RTS while ST is a squad based tactical RTS with only a handful of units which are all cap trooper variants. GC2 is by far the better game, bu ST proved to be more addicting most likely due to the neccessity of surival as opposed to trowing endless waves of troops at the enemy.

Fairly easy to solve. If you want to know the solution, just say so. The mission only took two shots and that was because of a teleportation fuck up. You should be able to avoid casulties till at least Xenocide 2 (where im at) and possibly beyond. If anyone dies, just save them with the medic.

Actually that's the same for me. It's set up so if you angle yourself properly, clear a room and enter it...

Monsters will spawn BEHIND you in the majority of cases and smack you over the back of the head. Or even better they spawn behind AND in front of you. Or some other annoying shit where it's virtually impossible to avoid injury unless you're playing Quake style. Which you can't because it's too dark to see where you're going. Anyway when they smack you your aim goes to shit and you can't really figure out where to move, especially when you can't see more than maybe 20 centimetres in front of you..

Feedback, how do you manage your new troopers? I stick a couple in as medics and engineers so they benefit from armor protection as they gain experience. What Im thinking of doing is parking privates (i have 5) and class 3 armors in front of an open bugholes and taking my higher ranking guys to go complete things. All they do is die if I bring them and they slow me down because they cant bounce. Ill come back end of the mssion at which point they'll have leveled up nicely. if i give them guns that never empty they can keep killing till its time to go.

feedback
30th September 04, 12:47 PM
That's a good idea, what I've tried doing is just keeping them with my main group, but the problem is that even if they survive the mission, they don't get enough experiance to get promoted to something useful. I'll try parking them in front of a bughole.
Oh, that's what I'm supposed to do on that mission with the teleporters isn't it? Leave a squad at the teleporter on each island?

Osiris

Youd think the queen woukld have some damn guards. Guess not. Lost a lot of men in Xenocide 4, but they were mostly unarmored and once I found the boss I planted my weapons and simply walked out with an 11 minute time limit. 11 minutes? Dude, one of my proudest geek moments came at this tiny little gaming convention that the Wizards guys attended -- back before they ruled the world -- and I'm the only woman in the room, and I've just got my one deck with me. Most of the guys in the room has sports bags full of cards, but I've just got my little 48'er. And I'm winning. With a mix deck -- 3 COLORS, Blue, Black and Red.

So, one of the guys walks by and sees this, looks at my board and stops me when the duel's over. He says "I've never seen anyone play a 3 color deck before and make it work. Can I see it?". Then he proceeds to GIVE me some excellent Blue cards I didn't have.

Man, that was a good day.

Raven
1st October 04, 04:20 PM
Yeah, it was an addicting game. I didn't have the money to buy alot, so I really sucked. Plus I got in after 3rd edition, so most of the uber cards had been nerfed.

Twiddle, dude.

I fucked up so many guys with a well timed twiddle/power drain/fireball. In fact, I won a duel in one round with that combo, I had something artifact that gave you tonnes of mana when you tapped it, so I threw out a twiddle, stole HIS mana, fed the fireball and hit the guy for like 25 points of damage.

Hydroponics is tough, make sure you pick up the assault rifle at the end of it, it will make combat much easier later on.

And just because you're navy doesn't mean you shouldn't get some psi skills, so hang onto one of those psi-amps you find, then invest in some healing and fireball type skills.

Zeddy
3rd October 04, 12:18 AM
That laser pistol thingo was also pretty good, plenty of ammo for that in some places. I didn't really use the psi-amp that much though beyond a few first level tricks.

I'm not sure but I think I used some kind of freeze attack on the psi-amp for the assassin droids, as well as healing LOTS.

SS2 was also the one with the "Your song is not ours" moaning, wasn't it? :)

Hey guys, if you can find someone else to do it with, run co-op! :D Too few games have co-op nowadays... :(

I never tried SS 2 in coop, but I hear it isn't as good as singleplayer simply due to the fact you aren't alone, and it changes the atmosphere.

Hydroponics is tough, make sure you pick up the assault rifle at the end of it, it will make combat much easier later on.

Hydroponics was a piece of cake once I figured out how to properly dispose of midwives. I found the assualt rifle and am lugging it around until I can get another weapons upgrade. Im about to leave it in a chemical room, go fetch my grenade launcher and then come back later.

That laser pistol thingo was also pretty good, plenty of ammo for that in some places.

Worth shit as a weapon, but when my pistol and shotty click empty its my last resort before melee.

And just because you're navy doesn't mean you shouldn't get some psi skills, so hang onto one of those psi-amps you find, then invest in some healing and fireball type skills.
I dunno bout all of that. I found the sci things quite useless. Plus I drink a lot of alchohol..

True, I played it alone first, then a few years later started on the co-op.

It adds another dimension when one of us is wielding psi and the other standard weapons. Ramp up the difficulty.

This is where you get in discussions with people on which upgrades to choose to cover bases. Of course it's always cool to have people to back you up when moving around. Not recommended for quake/cs players though. :(

Upgraded assault should replace your pistol. If I recall correctly it uses the same ammunition? The laser does not pack a lot of punch, but ammunition is very plentiful.

I think I only used the heal as an emergency thing... and there was a pull thing I experimented with I think, but wasn't worth the effort.

Not recommended for quake/cs players though.

They need to be legally confined to their own games.

I know. Dont have the weapons level yet though.

Yeah I think I dropped the pistol once I got the AR. You put it in semi-auto and it's much more powerful.

Nah, what tends to happen?

CS players like bunny hopping into the middle of a room firing wildly.

Apart from the fact you can't actually jump in Raven Shield, firing while walking dramatically increases bullet spray, firing while RUNNING increases that spray to around a 45 degree angle, bullets tend to be uniformly fatal, and terrorists fire highly accurately?

:D

LOL. Sounds like a disaster. I was playing the specialists a while ago and its easy as hell to tell the CS players. Theyre gonna e crouching in the corner with the biggest rifle they can afford. The make good targets.

The specialists is the best fucking mod for half-life multiplayer, hands down. Goddamn it's stylish.

Hell yeh. When I first saw that thing I was fucking amazed. There are deeper games of course, but in terms of just being kick ass, The Specialists owns. Its basically the multiplayer version of the max payne kung fu mod. How pimp is that?

Heh, that just spurred me to go play for about an hour. There's just something cool about shooting glass in slow-motion in an office.

You guys can still get the Specialists to work? I thought you had to pay for Steam to continue playing Half-Life mods, at least that's what my friend told me. I uninstalled all of it..oh well.

Once you have halflife, the steam client is 100% free.

Played "Lands of Lore - the Throne of Chaos" last night till 1:30 AM ... thanks Underdogs!!!

I bought a diskette version (no speech) in 1993 and had to stop as it had bad sectors on the final disk. Finally I can beat this game and then I may die.
